RE: New on Netflix - Iron Fists and Kung Fu Kicks
Oh Kung Fu films were big in my Childhood. I grew up on Jet Li, Jackie Chan and my lord and king, Chuck Norris playing Walker Texas Ranger. Bruce Lee was already dead by this time, so I only saw characters that were made in his likeness(Lee from popular NAMCO game franchise Tekken comes to mind).
The issue with Bruce Lee, as I recall from a separate documentary was his onorthodox style of Martial arts that didn't sit well with the purists. He was a rebel and "broke" conventional rules to establish his style of fighting that was technically impervious because he capitalised on any weak spot his opponent leaves. His fame grew when he dies but that was also after he beat the crap out of the other kung fu masters. He was the ultimate fighter.
Jackie Chan was the most impressive though. His conditioning and longevity is something special. At over 60years of age, I won't bet on myself to take him, granted he's slowed down a bit now(I'm 27). This makes it all the more baffling that he recorded some of his greatest movies between 35-60years of age, doing all those stunts and shit. He's somethig special.
