Oscars nominations are out!

in #film7 years ago

There's only a few things a year that I look forward to my Birthday, Christmas and the Oscars. I count down for this day, THIS IS MY SUPERBOWL! Oscar nominations were announced today, and instead of going through the entire list one by one I just want to talk about what I like about these nominations. To view the entire list click here

First of, my opinion is very subjective. I have seen ALMOST all of the films, but I am missing 2 or 3. Therefor, my opinion cannot be taken too serious.

I was happily surprise to see Get Out get any recognition, the film got 4 nominations. Best Film, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. This film was released earlier in the year, and films that come out that early in the year like in February are often lost, they fall between the cracks and people forget them. This is Jordan Peele's directorial debut, he comes from comedic background, but he made people remember his film close to its year anniversary. To me, Get Out is the biggest surprise and I am rooting for the film to grab a golden statue.

The Shape of Water leads with 13 nominations. Guillermo del Toro is a brilliant Director, his imagination is that of a kid but with all the seriousness of an adult. He can go from Hellboy, Pacific Rim to a creature love story set in the 50's. The Production Design in this film is orgasmic to the eye with the green watery palette tone cinematography. I was not a huge fan of the film's story line or the characters arch, visually it is beautiful, the music is fantastic, I am a fan of Memo especially because he represents my home country.

I am also very happy to see Blade Runner 2049 get 4 noms! The film didn't do well in the box office, and I blame that mainly on the running time, visually this is my favorite film. Denise Villeneuve always picks interesting projects, slowly he has become one of my favorite Directors and I will go check whatever project he is involved in.

LOGAN nominated?!?!?! what? Best Screenplay, another happy surprise! To me, Logan was one of the best comic book films of 2017. A perfect end to the chapter of Logan, and for it to be recognized in something says much about how far the comic book genre has come along.

I am looking forward to the 90th Academy Awards, even if The Disaster Artist didn't get any nominations for Best Film, or Best Actor I am glad there was room for Get Out to squeeze in there. What did you like about the nominations?
