Introducing myself | Hi! I’m Andrew an animator from Australia working on movies :))

in #film7 years ago (edited)

Helloooooooooo fellow steemizens! I would like to welcome you to my blog channel, and would start off by saying thank you clicking on my post. I very much appreciate your time and attention, I hope I’m worth your precious time :))

I would like to introduce myself, my name’s Andrew and I’m from Australia currently residing in London, UK. My current profession is I’m a character animator working in the visual effects department over at Double Negative VFX London. I’ve been involved in the movie business for over 4 years, before coming to Double Negative I worked for the AMAZING Weta Digital, films include Lord of the rings trilogy, King Kong, and the planet of the Apes movie.
My full film credits include:

  • Hobbit the battle of five armies
  • Fast and furious 7 (worked on CGI face replacement of the late Paul Walker)
  • Hunger Games Mockingjay part 2
  • Pete’s Dragon
  • Mazerunner: Scorch Trials
  • Alvin and the chipmunks
  • Jungle Book
  • The Big friendly Giant (Steven Spielberg!!!!!)
  • A cure for wellness
  • Assassin’s creed
  • Wonder woman (First DC movie!)
  • Thor Ragnarok (My first Marvel film!)

Feel free to ask me about my experience on these film projects but please note there are sensitive things I cannot discuss, I will do my best however!

The famous Weta Cave :) this building is directly connected to the WETA workshop, whom are responsible for creating high quality props and concepts #nerdgasm

Friendly Golum :) he'll pose for photos with you provided you don't take his fish!

I remembered on my very first day at WETA Digital I was completely overwhelmed with my surroundings, everything was moving at a quick pace. I slowed myself down that day and took this photo of Neytiri, I felt like I was some place special :)

Oscar sitting in the hallways for display.

My work desk at Dneg, the hours are very long but worth it.

About young Andrew:
From a young age I was always fascinated by cartoon animation and drawing, I think this stems from the fact that I was so curious about the world around me. Watching movies like Aladdin, Lion King and Jurassic Park mesmerized me :O It made a huge impact on me, and I believed laid the foundation towards my current career path. I’m very passionate about my craft, constantly pursueing ways to improve my animation and artistic side. My ultimate goal is to one day work at Disney or Pixar (I’m still quite a long way off from this goal but hopefully one day :)).

I’d like to share with you guys in an upcoming blog post about how I went from the WORST student in the class, to working on Jungle book and now Thor Ragnarok. My low and high points in my career, and how my mindset absolutely changed after I graduated. Until then, I’ll see you next time!

Hope you have an amazinggggg day and take care!!

Welcome, loved your post, which movie was your favorite to work on? Have you ever met any of the actors during you time in the movie industry? I can't wait to hear more about you journey as a student and what inspired you to give it your all!!

hey @tiredmama great questions! I enjoyed a lot of the projects I worked on but I would have to say working with Steven on the BFG was FANTASTIC!! His energy was infectious and overwhelming, you can tell he really respects his team by giving us a lot of confidence and flexibility to do our shots. I think a great director is one that lays out a vision but doesn't hamstring artist/animators, at the end of the day we only want to produce the best work for the director. Thanks I'd love to share more stuff :) look for future post!
