REVIEW

All About Eve tells the story of a popular Broadway actress, Margo Channing (Bette Davis) who fears her popularity will diminish due to her aging age. One night after her performance, her best friend, Karen Richards (Celeste Holm), introduced a Margo fan to her on the backstage. Fans who eventually known as Eve Harrington (Anne Baxter) is a big fan of Margo and always attended every performance Margo anywhere. Long story short, Eve became Margo's personal assistant. But Margo finally realizes that Eve has another reason why she wants to be her personal assistant.

With a long duration, All About Eve feels a bit boring in the beginning to the middle of the story, mainly because of the many long dialogues - although the one shown is an intelligent dialogue - typical of drama. Fortunately, his acting players are really great especially Bette Davis who plays Margo Channing. His arrogant character makes us hate him a little at the beginning but eventually turns into sympathy when he knows that it's all a risk to be a famous actress where he feels anxiety when his career declines with age factors that are not young anymore. Especially when seeing the beautiful, young, talented Eve become a competitor in the future makes Margo an irritating person for everyone.

Supported by good scripts and a good selection of players, All About Eve is an exciting and worth watching a spectacle. A classic movie that looks so dazzling in its day. Gesture and the way Davis, who plays Margo, even looks so real and gives a deep impression on the memory of Margo Channing. Other actors and actresses also played well with their characters such as Gary Merrill who plays Margo's boyfriend - Bill Sampson; Hugh Marlowe who plays Lloyd Richards, Karen's husband; George Sanders (Addison DeWitt); Thelma Ritter (Birdie) or Barbara Bates who only appear briefly in the end as Phoebe who gets a small portion but quite significant. Not to forget there is also Marilyn Monroe who became Miss Casswell. All About Eve is clearly a star-studded movie with good acting quality players.

"Bill's thirty-two. He looks thirty-two. He looked it five years ago He'll look it twenty years from now. I hate men." - Margo Channing.

For fans of classic movies, All About Eve is a pity to miss, especially since there will be a sweet twist on the ending of the story, although it should be patient enough to watch it in the early minutes.
