Day 12 - What is your favorite animated film?

Answer: Wreck-It Ralph (2012)

Much like the challenge for Day 11, this one is another challenge that I could've put a few different movies here. I've decided to go with what I'm currently considering my favorite animated film at the moment. That would be Wreck-It Ralph. It's one of those films that hits many of my different interests. I love the fact that it's a movie about video game characters living in their own world. I'm a big fan of the central focus of the movie being about the villain of a game too. That is something that always peaks my interest. I love seeing the side of a story from the perspective of the someone who is supposed to be a bad guy. It makes for a more compelling story to see where they are coming from. The many cameos real video game characters make is just icing on the cake.

The plot of Wreck-It Ralph is an interesting one. All of the characters from video games are actually living digital beings. Our setting is inside of a dusty, old arcade and our main character comes from the fictional game called "Fix-It Felix Jr." Ralph is the antagonist of the game and his job is to destroy buildings while the hero player character tries to fix the damages in the process. The problem is that Ralph is getting tired of being the villain. He wants more out of life. He wants the recognition that heroes get. He doesn't like being treated like a bad guy just because he's the villain of his game. Ralph gets challenged by NPCs from his game that they'll start treating him better when he can earn a hero's medal. Taking them up on this challenge, Ralph leaves his own game and seeks out his prize in other games in the arcade. He eventually gets wrapped up in another mess in a racing game called "Sugar Rush" when he meets a character named Vanellope Von Schweetz who has been shunned for being glitched.

I would consider this film to be one of the new classics in animation. There isn't really anything that I would say is wrong with it. The one minor gripe I have with the film might just be the title. It's called Wreck-It Ralph, but the film becomes more about Vanellope Von Schweetz plight about halfway through the film. Ralph still plays a big role. His desire to be get recognition by his peers is still a thing. It just kind of feels like the focus shifts to someone who isn't the titular character. That's all. I suppose it's a dumb gripe to have because Ralph still gets the chance to be a hero by helping Vanellope. I'm certainly looking forward to the sequel whenever it comes out. I hope it's good. I'd hate for it to be tainted because The Emoji Movie exists and ruins the concept of traveling to the internet world for it.
