MAKE IT COUNT

in #fiction6 years ago (edited)

It was the first day of the week and Judith was rushing to work when her phone rang, she looked at the screen and dropped it back in her handbag. It was her Mum calling, she had been calling over the weekend asking Judith to come see her, at least for them to spend few hours together.
"Why can't Mum understand that I Dont have the luxury of time" whispered Judith in a harsh tone.

She just finished a 6 hours board meeting and her team in which she was the leader was given an outrageous target by the board which was still trying to comprehend the task when her phone rang, it was Mum calling again and that was the 34th time that day. Quickly she messaged her and said "I'm very busy Mum, can't talk nor visit at the moment, I'll squeeze out time to visit by the end of the month (which was in 15days time)." "Try to understand Mum, I'm over occupied" she concluded.

Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, Mum had stopped calling and Judith was still working tirelessly. She came back home one day from work to realize its been 4 months since she made the promise to see Mum, so she made up her mind to see her by the weekend.

By weekend, she drove kilometers to her Mum's place only to find the house empty. While trying to figure out what was happing, a neighbor worked out and told her "the woman is in the hospital". " hospital? " exclaimed Judith; "yes, for about 4 months now at the community health care center" replied the neighbor. "Pls who are you" inquired the neighbor; but before he could conclude his statement, Judith rushed out of the compound to her car with tears in her eyes.

On getting to the hospital, she was shown the way to the I.C.U (intensive care unit) where her Mum has been in coma for the past 4 months. She was battling with diabetes which got aggregated due to depression caused by loneliness.

Regretfully, Judith sat by her bedside, holding her hands. Tearfully she said "Mum, I am sorry, I'm sorry, please don't leave me, I need you." Subbing bitterly, with regrets and pains, she wished she had spent more time with her Mum. She remembered countless times when her Mum had gone out of her way to be there for her and now, she was too busy for Mum.

Her eyes raised to heaven, as she attempts to pray to God, whom she had also abandoned for a long time. "Father, I know I don't deserve to call you that, but we will deliberate and settle that latter. Right now, I need you to help restore my Mum back to me; I know you have the power to, and I believe you will, even if not for me but do it for your beloved Son Jesus, and I promise to make things right with you and Mum. In Jesus Name, Amen.'

It was less than 10 Minutes after she prayed, that she felt a hand on her back. To her surprise, her Mum was awake. She called for the doctor and in less than a week, her Mum was discharged. Judith took her Mum and they both lived together, spending time and making every moment count....n-CARING-FOR-ELDERLY-PARENT-628x314.jpg
