"Translucent Whale" a short story idea. Fantasy and Space Travel

Far out at sea, there was a small ship sailing fiercely upon the deep blue waves. It was yellow, with a thin white stripe running across it. An old man was at the wheel, staring out at the skyline with a duty bound look on his face. He was on a quest that held not only the fate of his family in his hands but that of the whole world. Something had happened, a creature from another space and time, had swallowed the earth whole... and plunged it into darkness.

Without the sun or the moon, the earth would soon crumble and fade away into a legend. There would be no more laughter or cries, singing or dancing, there would be no summertime festivals or snowfall. The leaves would dry and turn to dust, birds would fall from the trees and a sickness/a madness would take over the hearts of many.

What a grisly end to a once beautiful planet.

That is, of course, true only if that old man upon that small yellow ship had never been born. This man with his white scratchy beard and ebony skin, whose heart beats strong, rides the whitecaps and journeys off into the dark horizon with a treasure sleeping beneath the deck.

In the cabin, a young girl with curly brown pigtails in a rose-red dress clutches a small box in her hands as she dreams of rainbow fish, giant tiger lilies​, and a white lion who sits up in a willow tree and roars a mighty roar for all​ existence to hear.

An adventure awaits, the play has begun!
Now we must wait for the story to unfold.
