"Dagon" is an excellent work from HP Lovecraft in the public domain. The concept of thalassophobia is used to describe the fear of the ocean. The sense of being totally at the mercy of nature and distant from safety is a big component of thalassophobia. Lovecraft delivers a enjoyable short read that explores this emotion and adjacent similar thoughts.
