Wunmi, one Informant member and the owner of the drug store - with the pretty girl - were the only ones in the building. The main team was outside in pitch black night The plan was to capture a lone Crawler, weaken it with their modified bullets, and drive back to Mayfair for some good old torture. If things went berserk like they likely will, stun grenades and adamantium bullets - supplied by the minister of defense - that releases micro-chips into the bloodstream of the fleeing monsters (if they have any) will serve as contigency.
** "Are you one of them?"**
Wunmi's heart skipped a beat at the intrusion on her thoughts... She uttered a little prayer for her partner as she hid his safety totem in her apron. The girl must've seen her caressing it absentmindedly. Wunmi felt grateful at the sound of approaching footsteps down the hall. Someone else could do the talking, all she wanted to do right now was pray for Saed.
"Oh, she's awake. How're you feeling, dear?" The round store owner said loudly as she waded in and slammed the door behind her.
Wunmi jumped in her seat... Couldn't the old woman be discreet for once? Even though the Crawlers did not come near houses, there had been one occurence according to history books. A lad acting alone, broke into a house and murdered the entire family. A mistake that saved mankind according to the seers ( It coincided with the rebirth of the Informants which had been dormant for centuries) as it extended their stay in the bowels of the earth by centuries.
This was the same reason why the Crawlers were damned to the earth's bowel in the first place. A barbaric clan had turned against human-dwellers in the south and turned it into their graveyards without cause. The action broke the oath binding the the humans and the Crawlers together, releasing a punishment that seemed okay back then, but now widely regarded as a grave mistake.
Later it was rumored some unscrupulous humans were the ones who turned the heart of Crawlers against their neighbors. Man, a passenger on earth became god, bearing forth gods that made the earth selfishly theirs.
Time flew by, generations came and went. The Crawlers were forgotten until news of their appearances became rampant. Somehow they'd crossed the night's threshold and there were no oaths or agreement stopping them anymore. Then humans began to disappear, and sometimes dismembered cadavas showed in parking lots. Fortunately, there was an agreement to not cross land owners' property in place.
The minister of defence confessed he was the brain behind the trespass agreement and the 'charmed door productions' at the meeting. When the time for the Crawlers to emerge drew near, the government invited some of their leaders. The leaders denied their involvement in the human disappearances and blamed it on over population. In exchange for peace and knowledge in quantum physics, they asked for earth. The government even went further to reassure them estates with claims they were being set up for their return. It was an inevitable approach to avoid conflict in the words of the minister of defence.
Judging by occurrences, it was clear the Crawlers no longer seeked peace, but emergence to rule the earth. Wild stories about the Crawlers went around; they were growing too powerful with their superhuman powers and metaphysical knowledge.
Obviously, they were no longer afraid of the night. All that remained was to conquer the day; woe betide mankind when the Crawlers fully return. Indeed, there was a theory floating in Wunmi's mind... if the Crawlers could hasten their return with the aid of their oracles.
"Wunmi, Wunmi!"
Wunmi cast a spiteful look at the round pharmacist, and caught the girl's eye studying her.
"They need you downstairs, it seems Saed messaged."
