#126: Virtual Town Hall
“Hey Shelby, lookit what I got” Chadd called out.
“Whut?” Shelby hadn’t had enough coffee yet.
“One of our sewer bots made an interesting discovery.” Chad said.
“What did it find?” Shelby stopped himself from making turd jokes..by an effort of will.
“Coal.” Chadd said with an evil grin on his face.
“Coal?.........hmmmm.” Shelby was grinning also.
“The difficult we do right away” Shelby told the Dragon Lady.
“ The impossible just takes a little longer”...she replied.
“.....and revenge is a dish best served cold” they repeated in unison.”
“YES!”
Rain... it rained. It had been raining for many months. It had been raining longer than at any time in living memory...and there was fog.
Fog on the river was a given. Not ‘if’ but ‘how thick’. Sometimes the fog obscured the river and the islands in the river for weeks at time..
No one would see Flint Island leave one night.... in the fog.

.
I have been informed of
a solution to our
harassment problem
.
We need to talk about it.
Rather than having a town hall meeting
like we did last time we’ll try something else.
.
A Virtual Town Hall.
Tune in to Channel 0 at 6 P.M.
(parents...if you don’t know what that means.
ask your children..they know.)
.
..............................
that afternoon at
6 p.m. on Channel 0
Kamiko Akiyama: Good afternoon everyone. This will save some time. I’m sure you all are getting tired of the constant harassment from the real estate people.
Kamiko Akiyama : It’s getting ugly. They’ve escalated.
Kamiko Akiyama : “Yesterday night the government was here to help us..again. A group of thugs attempted to kill one of our children.”
Dead silence. Kamiko stood looking into the eyes of everyone present. Through the magic of the SSmoke it was as if she was examining their souls.
Finally someone dared to break the silence.
Ernesto Galvani :“What happened Ma’am. What did they do?”
Kamiko Akiyama “They died. The child in question, he’s only seven, killed three of them. His mother took care of his light work. Officer TwoFeather’s arrived after it was all over to dispose of the bodies.”
Silence. Awe...then grins began to appear..
Shouting, whistles and applause.
Kamiko Akiyama: Like I said. They’ve upped their game. Based upon past observations they will never give up. They will continue to escalate until they get what they want.
Sheryl Gadsby : What about us?
Kamiko Akiyama: In normal circumstances people like us would either give in to their demands or die.
Kamiko surveyed her virtual audience. She let that sink in for a moment.
Kamiko Akiyama: these are not normal circumstances and we are no longer normal people. We have options.
She let that sink in for a few seconds..
Kamiko Akiyama: The Maggi have devised a method by which we can leave.
Gloria Smith: Move? Everything we own is here on Flint Island.. Everything we’ve worked for for decades. Many of the children know nothing else. How can we move?
Kamiko Akiyama: we take the Island with us.
The Next Episode will be
# 127: Banana Slug…
The Previous Episode was

the First episode was

I'm

.
I write
SPECULATIVE FICTION
I have books on Amazon too.
Sometimes I also comment on the news
Sometimes it's hard to tell fiction from the news.
'The impossible just takes a little longer' this is well spoken. Nothing is impossible, it just takes a bit longer to make it possible.
Next stop for the Island, where ever they want it to be. Feel like a little skiing before sunbathing, head north, want sun and warm blue waters, head south. Now they just need to figure where to go.
Chapter numbering error here Boss :)
dropped link?
got it.......
let's make like a spindizzy and leaf. I know what you've read sir.
yup...I read that a long time ago.
Yah, but that was the best of Blish IMHO. That's what gives him his place in the scifi author's ranking table, also IMHO.
I read it maybe fifty years ago...dunno if I'd like to read it again.
I've done that with some 'old favorites'...hasn't turned out well.
different time...different standards..
I know what you mean. I rarely re-read, with the exception of truly magical classics. Re-reading "Stranger in a Strange Land" or the "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" (maybe 5x for each in 50 years) never disappoints me but there is too much new mind blowing stuff out there that I rather look for the next one.
I don't want to embarass you but I'm going to rave about Soulstone for a while. That's gonna leave a mark.
Regards,
Rick
PS Only re-read "Cities in Flight" once. It was ok the 2nd time around.
PPS Hey, congrats! Just noticed your (rep) went from (72) to (73) today. I think you and @bashadow had an exchange about how the rep worked and who might be first to (100). Were you guys serious that each increment is a log scale jump?
yup.
rep is logrithmic.
forex...65 is one hundred times harder to get than 64.
Wow, so when I compare your (73) to my (38) it seems it would be appropriate for me to genuflect in your presence. ;-)
Thanks,
Rick
er...no.
you're welcome anyway
Wohh man what was that? This is unbelievable . You have share the best post i have ever seen. Thanks
