That was fun! It's not actually surprising that the church turned animals that had been important to pre-existing religions into demonic creatures in the popular imagination. That was part of the strategy in suppressing people's religious beliefs to make way for Christianity.

I thoroughly agree that cats should have a revered role in our society. Or at least be allowed to rule over their individual house-sized kingdoms.
