Wow this is awesome. Gory... strike that... really gory... but so good! Often that kind of surprise twist can feel like a cop-out but in this case you already had planted the seeds - we knew that he was there because he chose to be, we are wondering what the heck Rebar is (@carlgnash trivia - what is the name of Carl's first band? Answer - "Rebar"). The satisfaction came when he went back in at the end. I have to say that your action sequences were really well written, easy to follow, didn't labor at all. Just loved this whole thing.

When I googled rebar as a name, I was surprised that more things weren't named Rebar. It could be a metal band, a movie, anything.
I was worried about the ending too. I'm really not into that '90's/all a dream/dues ex machina' kind of crap, but the video game aspect was the story. Without that, it'd just be a story about some guy bashing in another guy's head with a pool ball, and who has time to read that.
