My return from the dead, here's a poem I wrote: DENIED

in #feminism6 years ago

Sooo, I haven't been on here much because I have been focusing on school... but I'm back so yay enjoy this poem I wrote.

Her name was Jaquelin,
She had long black hair and subtle curves,

She applied to be an engineer, she was qualified for the job,
She walked into the interviewing room,
there were 2 men, both staring at her physique.

She sat, they spoke,
Your name is Jaquelin long black hair,
You are a woman,

You have been denied

At home, she sat in her living room,
She stands in front of the mirror,
hands on her waist feeling every inch of every curve and bump
Until her hands were in her hair

Tears down her face like condensation,
She reaches into the drawer next to her
And cuts cuts cuts until her feet were covered in her long luscious hair

Her name was Jaquelin
And she black stubby hair

In an accountants office,
Scratching what little of her hair she has left,
Scratching away the fear, scratching away whatever thought came to mind
Just look happy,

"What kind of name is Jaquelin, no one would want to speak to a woman"
You have been denied

Now at the bureau,
Demanding to have her name changed,
Her hands shaking almost as unstable as her mind frame,
Quaking with every second that goes by,

Her name was Jack,
She had short black hair,

Now in a lawyers office,
"Are those breasts??!"
You are a woman

You have been denied,
She goes out and buys a binder,

Can she work with the school board?
You are a woman
You have been denied

What about a technician?
You are a woman,
You have been denied,

Doctor?
You have been denied,
Denied, denied, denied D-E-N-I-E-D, denied

Her name was Jack, short stubby hair
Flat chested, a blouse and baggy pants

Job after job she was denied a living, Demolished and broken,
She sat in a chair of failures she didn't deserve,

Forever scared with the wretched phrase across her forehead,
"You are a woman"

A scar that no amount of baggy pants, short hair, and masculinity can hide,
A big fat ugly scar that spells out her future in big bold letters for the world to see,

It took years and endless rejections,
Until she came to the obvious yet complicated solution,
She was a woman

It had been staring at her directly in the eyes,
Reaching into her soul and screaming,
"WAKE UP, YOU ARE A WOMAN"

You shouldn't have to cut out your femininity,
To prove that you're of value,
You are the only person that should make changes,
And they should be for you,

Not for a boyfriend,
Not for a boss,
But for you,
You deserve to make the person in the mirror smile at what they see,

Because you are beautiful inside and out,
You should never be denied the right to be who you are,
Because we are women,

We are strong, independent, courageous beings,
We were made to thrive,
Made to rise above,

We don't deserve to be treated like the bottom half of the world,
We don't deserve to be molded and dressed up like dolls,
by people who don't understand our godly anatomy,

Because we get put into groups,
Poor, Rich,
Preppy, nerds,
When really, we are part of a much bigger group,

A much more powerful and meaningful group,
We belong to an army of women,

Women who are strong enough to bypass those in their path,
Women who have the biggest hearts,
To help heal the ones who have been broken,

And if all of this seems fake, made up,
Look inside,
Find that little quiet voice telling you,
To be who you are,
Tell it to shout,
Tell it to put all its strength into making itself heard,

Because we deserve to be heard,
We deserve to be who we want to be,

You deserve to be who you want to be,

Because YOU are a woman,
