Last night I was out looking for a sunset, then this happened...
Nikon D750, 1/800s f/4.0 ISO720 120mm
I was at Saxe Point in Victoria, about 15 minutes before sunset. I wasn't thinking about birds and didn't have a long lens with me, instead I had a 24-120mm on the camera.
The eagle flies directly overhead. I had time to follow it for a few seconds.
The eagle was heading straight for its nest. Instead of showing you every shot one by one, I made a little gif file of the eagle landing in the nest. Here are all twelve shots I captured, replayed in something like real time...
To show you the difference a decent long lens makes, below is a shot from a different day. There's more detail and I can crop tighter as well. (I crop the hell out of all my bird shots, just sayin')
When I go looking for birds, the above image what I hope for, but what about that sunset?
A few minutes later... That's my Feathered Friday post for this week. Do you have any bird photos you would like to share? I would love to see them!
Really great captures! And that sunset is stunning, too. I've got a couple bird photos, but have been busy with Shadow Contest posts. I'll get the birds posted soon! 😃
Thank you, Melinda! Whenever you have time is good with me. I'm way behind, it will take me a long time to catch up!
That is such a beautiful bird, eagle 🦅
I like the way you provided the pictures

Thanks so much, @pixresteemer!
I like the 12 shots you shared so we got to see the eagle returning to the nest.
Thank you! I enjoy making those little gif files, it seems simpler than posting every individual shot.
Happy Feathered Friday @keithboone! :-)
