Fashion Design
Fashion design is the art of applying design, aesthetics and natural beauty to clothing and its accessories. It is influenced by cultural and social attitudes, and has varied over time and place. Fashion designers work in a number of ways in designing clothing and accessories such as bracelets and necklaces. Because of the time required to bring a garment onto the market, designers must at times anticipate changes to consumer tastes.
Designers conduct research on fashion trends and interpret them for their audience. Their specific designs are used by manufacturers. This is the essence of a designer’s role; however, there is variation within this that is determined by the buying and merchandising approach, and product quality; for example, budget retailers will use inexpensive fabrics to interpret trends, but high-end retailers will ensure that the best available fabrics are used.[1]
Fashion designers attempt to design clothes which are functional as well as aesthetically pleasing. They consider who is likely to wear a garment and the situations in which it will be worn, they have a wide range and combinations of materials to work with and a wide range of colors, patterns and styles to choose from. Though most clothing worn for everyday wear falls within a narrow range of conventional styles, unusual garments are usually sought for special occasions such as evening wear or party dresses.
Fashion Design is a star course that fulfills the dream to enter the world of fashion, wielding the keys of its main language. Fashion Design is the personal expression of a master creator who can conceive an idea and transform it into a wearable cult piece, desired by many who are looking for change.
This course perfectly integrates the two words contained in its title, Fashion and Design, into the teaching areas. The first area is based on research; a full immersion to acquire cultural and technical skill, while the second is practice-driven and aims to realise and present an impressive capsule collection.
Fashion Design is run by teachers from the industry and special guests, grants unlimited access to the Design Lab, Computer Labs, and the immense library, and includes a starting toolkit, a field trip to Milan Fashion Week, and internship opportunities. The two main projects of the course are of a quality to present as a personal portfolio, where the first develops from research to figurines, and the second from figurines to a capsule collection.
Lessons take place from October to June or April to December and amount to a total of 700 contact hours. There is the possibility of completing the course with an internship in a fashion company, leading to the overall obtainment of 80 credits. English language proficiency and attendance are required. Candidates will be selected after a enrolment questionnaire and an interview with the course’s leading teacher.
Upon completion of the Master’s students will be automatically given the possibility to partake in the Polimoda Talent 2018/2019 program.
