I don't think children start making most of their fashion decisions by the age of 8. In most cases it is the parents who make these decisions.
Maybe 15-17 is the age when most teens most of their fashion decisions.
Of course, fashion industries affect children. If a child sees a poster of an African American child, he will not think it's strange in the playground

personally, I was already telling my parents what I would/would not wear at the age of 7 so I think it really depends on the child and their intersts.
