@FARMS: NEW PROJECT. Planting Cebollín or Chives at Home
One of my new projects is about creating a sowing of Chives at home.
What is Cebollín or Chives?
How to Plant Chives at Home?
Considerations for Growing Chives
- Climate:The ideal temperature for growing chives ranges between 15 and 28 ° C, but can withstand lower temperatures.
- Luminosity: Chives cultivation requires direct sunlight, for this reason before planting you must choose a place with good lighting, however you can also adapt to shaded areas, as long as you can receive direct sunlight.
- Soil: Chives need a well-drained soil, fertile and rich in organic matter. It is advisable to keep the soil moist by avoiding excess water and puddles. The very acidic ones are not suitable for seeding onions. The pH of the soil should be 6 or 7 if the chives are to develop well.
- Irrigation: Regarding irrigation, you have to do it frequently so that the soil stays humid, if you see that the weather is very hot you should water the plant once every day, and once every two or three days if the weather is more wet. It is important to water the chives but avoiding excess water. The adult plant is relatively resistant to short periods of drought.
Process to Plant Chives
• Design and build your idea to take advantage of the space in the garden. And since human beings are very creative, I managed to design in a very original and economical way the perfect place to carry out planting. In my case, as I had cement blocks that were left over from a construction, I used them to create a kind of fencing, which I filled with black soil, compost and rotten wood, ideal for planting.
• I planted the roots or stems of chives in the built garden. I gave him a little water to compact the earth.
• It is necessary to water the crop every afternoon to keep them green and so that the onion can grow.
• Once they have reached an approximate height of 20 centimeters, I cut the amount that I need so that the plant keeps sprouting. For this I use a scissors.
• Chive production can be maintained throughout the year, as long as you keep the soil moist, the chives will grow a lot but you just have to take care of it and water it as I have indicated.
Benefits of Scallions o Chives
Chives are a bulb vegetable that provides very few calories. One cup contains only 32 calories. In turn, provide 7.3 grams of carbohydrates, 2.6 grams of fiber, 0.1 grams of fat, 4 mg of Omega 3 fatty acids and 70 mg of Omega 6 fatty acids. These last two make it a vegetable more than beneficial for health.
For example, it serves to reduce "bad" cholesterol (LDL), to improve brain functions and to prevent or avoid heart problems and strokes. As if that were not enough, chives are a great source of vitamin K. A cup of raw scallion or chives provides more than 250% of the recommended daily. This nutrient plays an important role in blood clotting, since it prevents the formation of thrombi that clog arteries and cause heart attacks and strokes (ACV for short).
Properties of Chives
To be able to enjoy most of these properties, it is recommended to consume the green onion or scallion, cut into thin slices, just before eating.

Are those garlic chives? They have such huge leaves! I've never seen chives with such big leaves.
Yes friend @goldenoakfarm.... I am 100% dedicated to the care of all my crops. The secret of the grow up of the chives is in the irrigation and in the fertilizer of the earth.
