[SFHL] Week 2 Interactive Preview w/ Steemsports-Style Betting

in #fantasysports8 years ago (edited)

Welcome to week 2 of the Steemit Fantasy Hockey League (SFHL)!

For those of you that haven't been following our progress closely, this league is intended as a proof of concept for how the Steem block chain and Steemit posts can be used to fuel fantasy hockey leagues. To provide incentives for participation throughout the season, post rewards are added to the league prize pool, to be distributed at the end of the year.

Nobody has paid to join this league, yet all team managers will get something at the end of the year.

To date, the following prizes have been funded:

This is the second weekly interactive post previewing the upcoming matches.

Here at SFHL, we're huge fans of @steemsports, and the work they've done bringing risk-free sports betting to the platform. We've been inspired to model our weekly posts after their approach. By letting users pick the winners of fantasy league matches, we will be able to give weekly prizes to fantasy team managers while letting the end of year pool continue to grow. And also, we are giving an opportunity for outside observers to engage with the league and earn some Steem along the way!

We welcome the participation of the entire community.

How it works:

Upvote the main post, and one winner per match up.

To be an eligible voter, users must have a minimum reputation of 40 (league players are exempt from this requirement, as several are new users). Voting on more than one team in a single match will void all of your votes for the week.

SP rewards from the main post will be added to the prize pool to furnish prizes at the end of the year.

Liquid Steem and SBD rewards will be split 50/50 between winning team managers and the voters who chose the correct team.

The liquid Steem rewards will be exchanged for SBD and held as SBD through the week until payout.

Week 1 Recap & Week 2 Preview

Written by @shenanigator

The week 1 contest is coming to an end on Sunday. These results aren’t official, but they should give people insight regarding the strengths and weaknesses of teams.

These head-to-head matchups are scored based on 10 categories. Whoever has the best score in each of these categories, gets a point for that category. The person with most points wins.

Here are the categories:

  • Goals
  • Assists
  • +/-
  • Penalty Minutes
  • Power Play Points
  • Shots On Goal
  • Goalie Wins
  • Goals Against Average (the only category where a low number is better)
  • Save Percentage
  • Number of Shutouts

@shenanigator Vs. @bacchist

@shenanigator dominated on offense in this matchup with 7 different players scoring at least 5 points in the first few games of the season. @bacchist’s goaltenders put up tremendous numbers, but it probably won’t be enough. If you can only be in command of one of these two categories, you want it to be offense because goaltending is worth only 4/10 points.

@full-measure Vs. campbell69soup (@bryce-campbell)

This contest could go either way. @full-measure’s team isn’t even recognizable compared to a week ago. He has added four new players to his team in the past week.

@heroic15397 Vs. Shane’s Team (@shanekardinal71)

Kneeling next to his bed this morning, @heroic15397 pleaded “Dear Lord, please have mercy on my team.” Alright, alright, this beating isn’t as bad as it looks. One solid goaltending performance from heroic could have this match tied up 5-5.

bossrammers (@bossram) Vs. JL (@jl-r-h)

JL spent half of his time in the penalty box this week. With 67 penalty minutes, it’s hard to believe his team had time to do anything else. Getting destroyed in nearly every category, @bossram needs to hope this week is just an anomaly.

@arfon Vs. Oilerado (@oilerado43)

We have a nail-biter on our hands here. The goaltenders will probably decide the winner of this contest. @oilerado43 has a decision to make: Do you bench your goalies and try to hang onto the lead? Or do you play your goalies and hope they don’t blow the win for you?

Dicks out 4 Harambe (@will-zewe) Vs. VamPardyLikeARockstar (@newerasparky)

The only chance @newerasparky has to win this matchup is a stellar goaltending game. If he can get a shutout this weekend, it would give him a win in the shutout column and a chance to win GAA and SV%.

Week 2 Matchups

Favorites and underdogs will be determined by the score should the 2 teams have played each other in week 1.

Matchup 1

@shenanigator Vs. VamPardyLkeARockstar (@newerasparky)

@shenanigator is a strong favorite in this matchup. He would have embarrassed @newerasparky in week 1 with the final score of 9-1, losing only in penalty minutes.

Matchup 2

@bacchist Vs. @full-measure

It’s difficult to pick a favorite between these two teams. If facing each other in week 1, it would’ve been a 4-4 tie.

Matchup 3

@heroic15397 Vs. campbell69soup (@bryce-campbell)

If facing each other in the opening week, @bryce-campbell would have squeaked by with 5-4 win, making him a slight favorite.

Matchup 4

bossrammers (@bossram) Vs. Shane’s Team (@shanekardinal71)

Shane’s Team is a heavy favorite in this pairing. He would’ve destroyed @bossram in week one 7-2.

Matchup 5

@arfon Vs. JL (@jl-r-h)

JL is a 5-2 favorite, but this matchup should is closer than it looks on paper. If they would have played last week, JL would’ve barely won in 2 goaltending categories. If those toss-up categories went to @arfon, he’d be a 4-3 favorite.

Matchup 6

Dicks out 4 Harambe (@will-zewe) Vs. Oilerado (@oilerado43)

@will-zewe is a 5-3 favorite here, but if past is prologue, this should be a great matchup.
