The Secret Tower

In a great wood, where grey cliffs defy the ocean waves, there stands a solitary tower. In ages past it served as a watchtower for an expanding people, but it has now been long forgotten. This is precisely why it held so much appeal for a certain lady who discovered it on one of her solitary explorations. She fell in love at once and set about fixing it up. Slowly, over many visits, the tower and the lady grew quite familiar with each other.

One day in the dust of a locked room she found an old spell which allowed the keeper of the tower to operate its magic from far away. No matter where she was she could see all that went on in the tower. Now the tower always felt close at hand. It remained her secret for many years. There was no danger of anyone else discovering it, for the tower looked over a remote and therefore dangerous part of the wood.

Until one day the lady looks in on her tower and sees a small boy resting inside. How he climbed the cliffs is only slightly less baffling than how he got to the cliffs in the first place. And what is she to do with him? The boy is a muddy mess, with his limbs sprawled out on the floor in every direction. From the looks of the room, he must have been terribly efficient at spreading his mess everywhere before crashing on the floor.

The brown handprints everywhere do have a certain charm to them. It adds some earthiness to the grey stone walls. And she was tired of all those now smashed valuables anyway. If a boy that small could manage to reach her tower, he deserved a place to stay.

So a strange relationship began between a boy with no home and a lady who decided to share hers. What would become of the pair, not even the wisest could have foretold.
