For a while now, news of young people committing suicide has been hitting the waves of social media. My heart has been ripped apart by these. I can imagine homes plunged into darkness of mournings and relatives thrown into confusion. In the midst of all these, my cause for alarm has been the fact that some of the reasons for which these young people kill themselves is really not worth it.

It got me thinking hard. Who raised these children, to think that first, they have the right to take their lives and also that someone breaking their hearts is the end of the world for them? Who raised them to be cowards and choose the easy way out instead of staying back to fight? We've had enough.

Not to even think about parents who think they've done enough already simply because they have put food in their kids bellies, clothes on their backs and are in the best schools in the world. Parenting is way beyond that. Need I say more that a child is as much a spiritual being as much as he is physical and emotional being. Balance these areas too not just physical. Adopt new parenting skills. Learn new parenting guidelines that actually work. Teach your kids how to handle life's crisis. Teach them to be strong men and women, not weaklings. Teach them the value of life.

Dear young ladies and mothers, Dear young men and fathers, it's obvious there is so much work to be done. Don't just slay only in clothes and wigs and cars and phones and gadgets. If you cannot be your child's confidant, for starters you have failed. Stretch yourself to know what is happening in your child's emotional life. Find out what is eating them up. It is not enough to have a womb, breasts and ass. Any woman can have that. Be a mother also. Same way, don't just be a man, be a father. It shouldn't always be about you and your selfish desires as parents. Nurture and groom your children. It's also about them, what they want and what they can be. No to death and yes to life.
