Faithfulness: The Kernel of Christian Life

1 Corinthians 4:1-2
Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.
Moreover, it is required in stewards, that a man is found faithful.

Every one of us is given talent to use for God's work and we are required to be faithful.

****I. Faithfulness Provides Honesty****

• We are commanded to provide honest things in the sight of all men (Romans 12:17).

We must be truthful. Let us not betray the trust of others as they confide to us their ups and downs in life. We betray their trust when we live in hypocrisy.

• We are also commanded to provide honest things in the sight of God.

2 Corinthians 8:21
Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord but also in the sight of men.

We can fool our fellow by appearing good in their eyes but we cannot mock God. We should be faithful to our commitments in serving Him even though no one will appreciate us.

****II. Faithfulness Produces Consistency****

• If we are faithful to God, we become consistent in our labour of love.

1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

We should be determined in serving the Lord. If we know His promises to us, that's what will keep us in keeping on.

****III. Faithfulness Produces Patience and Perseverance****

• Patience emanates from faithfulness and patience equals love (Romans 8:24-25).

****IV. Faithfulness Brings Reward****

Proverbs 25:13
As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

• If we are faithful, we are an inspiration to others.

• If we are faithful, it gives praise and honor to the name of God.

Proverbs 27:18
Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honored.

• If you are faithful, you shall be honored. You shall be lifted up by your good deeds.

Proverbs 28:20a
A faithful man shall abound with blessings.

• And if you are faithful, you shall be entrusted with material things.

Faithfulness is the basis of rewards, not talents.

We should live faithfully for we must all appear in the Judgment Seat of Christ; reckoning with Him of what we have done in our Christian life. (2 Corinthians 5:10)
