God is faithful: He will not abandon you, but he will stay with you until you finish the work to be done on his Temple. 1 Chronicles 28:20
The First Book of Chronicles is dedicated to recounting how the Kingdom of Israel reached its greatest apogee and splendor, in accordance with the blessings that God had poured out on Israel for its devotion. God is wise and faithful, the Bible teaches, and this is what King David communicated to his son Solomon when he entrusted him with the task of building the temple in the holy city of Jerusalem.
David, after succeeding Saul as king of Israel, dedicated his life to securing the Kingdom of Israel and establishing its borders and peace for the good of all Israelites and in fulfillment of God's plan, conquering Jerusalem, among other cities, and declaring it his capital. With peace established then came the realization of a great need, to give the God of Israel a house among the Israelites, the Ark of the Covenant had not been placed in a safe place until then, but David was already old and his days were numbered, that is why Solomon was crowned king with this enormous task ahead of him.
The First Book of Chronicles relates how David wisely addressed his son Solomon before his coronation in confirmation of his task with these words:
"Be confident and determined. Start the work and don't let anything stop you. The LORD God, whom I serve, will be with you. He will not abandon you, but he will stay with you until you finish the work to be done on his Temple" 1 Chronicles 28:20.
The First Book of Chronicles relates that the task of building the temple pleased God, and that because of this, after his coronation, Solomon was blessed with the gifts of wisdom, understanding, and spiritual discernment in the sacred place of Gabaon. The construction of the temple was the greatest task undertaken by Solomon and demonstrated how prosperity, common sense, and wisdom made their place in the Kingdom of Israel, placing this Kingdom above the other nations of its time. This moment in Israel's history is a reminder of how the Lord blesses those who fear God in their hearts and how through good leadership a people and an entire nation are blessed.
