If I give everything away will I go to heaven? Answer not what I wanted to hear.

I have been listening to may priests here in Greece and one made me think. He was asked if he gave all his money and property away after he died would that help him get into heaven?
The priest asked him a question. "If you were on a bus, and the bus ride was very long. And there was no room on the bus to sit because it was full. So you stood the whole 40 minute, until the last stop was coming up. At that last moment a gentleman got up and said too you. Here sir please take my set. Should you be thankful to him?" He give nothing away that he could use any longer. The seat was useless to him now. Where was his charity then? So no giving everything away when you die is not charity. It is not your any longer.
