A fact about what is behind the feeling you feel when you listen to music

in #fact7 years ago

Has it ever happened to you that the listening to music has made you shudder, a kind of tingling pleasure that runs through waves all over your body?

If so, it may surprise you that you are not the only one. Some of you will be surprised to discover that not everyone has experienced this feeling. In fact, you are in a group of about two-thirds of the world population, which is also deployed to those who experience it frequently to those who will rarely gain it.

This sensation is called prison ( or however you spell it ), a French term that means "aesthetic shivers" and is referred to by some researchers as an "orgasm of the skin" (also referred to as eargasm). The heart rate increases, the pupils dilate, the body temperature rises, the blood flows to the legs, and the cerebral area, which is responsible for the movement of the body, becomes more active. The brain is washed with dopamine and a slight shudder passes through the spinal cord, accompanied by duck skin.

Listening to touching music is the main trigger for Prison, and it occurs mainly because there is some breaking of music, a sudden change of harmony or the beginning of a vocal piece, for example. Some people feel this in other situations, such as when they look at art while watching a scene from a movie, reading a book, or physically interacting with another person.
Maybe some of you will say it's just a feeling of great excitement. I do not think so, I can get excited, even very strongly without feeling Prison. Even if I say the opposite, Prison causes excitement and is not caused by him.

But why are there people who feel it and some do not?

In a study published in the journal "Psychology of Music" last year, a correlation was found between the ability to sense a character and the characteristics of that person. Especially for the "openness to experience" personality characteristic.

People with a high-value openness feature an unusual active imagination, appreciation for beauty and nature, and seek new experiences. They think a lot about their feelings, and love diversity in life. Some aspects are essentially emotional (love for variety, beauty assessment), and others cognitive (imagination, intellectual curiosity).

In the study, it was found that the cognitive aspects of the openness characteristic, such as the ability to create predictions on the development of the work through musical images (a way of processing music that combines listening with daydreaming), are attributed to the sense of prison rather than the emotional components of the openness characteristic.

It follows that exerting concentration and effort to enter the music (instead of allowing it to pass over you) can allow you to experience Prison often and with great force.
