Facebook wants to mess with advertisements even in Messenger
Facebook takes a decision that might be quite controversial and prepares the introduction of ads right inside Messenger.
In the coming weeks, you'll have the chance to see ads in Messenger as part of a Facebook test. The announcement was made by Stan Chudnovsky, who deals with the messaging platform. He discussed with VentureBeat CEO at MB 2017 in San Francisco.
Messenger ads testing began in January, the first "guinea pigs" being users in Australia and Thailand. With about 1.2 billion monthly users, Messenger has one of the largest audiences on the planet. While other large chat applications have focused on other aspects, Chudnovsky says the current move brings Messenger closer to the imagined business model, the advertising one.
"Advertising is not everything, but it is clearly how we earn revenue. As for the future, there are other business models that we explore, but all are based on advertisements, "says Chudovsky
