Facebook has declared a new policy that should eliminate a lot of spammy content from your news feed and timeline. Going ahead, all posts that ask users to participate with them in any way will be demoted and conceal out of view.

Engagement baiting is a strategy that has turned out to be popular on the internet recently where the headline drives the reader into interacting it in some way or the other. On Facebook, these typically show themselves as posts that start with “Like this if..” or “Tag someone who” or “Comment if you…”, and so forth. These inspired people to interact with them, which thus increases their engagement section and makes them rank higher.

What's next?

This is a valuable change considering exactly the amount of Facebook and the internet, in general, is covered with such content. It’s probable these publishers will think of other strategies to draw in users yet ideally now that Facebook has woken up to them it will be more proactive in halting any such patterns in future.
