'I love you' driver gets Dh1,000 fine in Dubai
taxi driver who verbally harassed a 16-year-old student was fined Dh1,000 by a court in Dubai.
The 40-year-old man had said "I love you" to her in English in the hopes of wooing her and forming a romantic attachment despite her refusal, reported Al Bayan.
On the day of the incident, she had called him to drive her from her home in Dubai to Sharjah so she could attend a friend's party.
Three hours after he dropped her off, she called him again to pick her up.
He surprised her by grabbing her hand and saying "I love you". The girl immediately pulled away from his grasp, but not before he had taken a ring from her finger.
He kept repeating the phrase until she arrived at her residence.
The young woman had previously utilised his services while going from her school in Sharjah to her home in Dubai.
Later, she and her friends took him to the police station and reported him.
