Get Rid of Dreadful Memories with Facebook’s New Filter for “On This Day” Feature

Facebook introduces new filter for their "On This Day" feature.
For many, Facebook appears like a nostalgia mechanism that is equipped with awesome features that reminds you of your activities from the past like photos, videos, and posts. But, it seems that these memories aren’t always taken positively by all users for reasons like accidentally bringing up painful memories, such as photos of dead relatives or friends.
In an effort to avoid these situations from happening, the 11-year-old website introduced a new set of filters for their “On This Day” feature, which allows users to specify the dates and people they don’t want to remember.
Facebook’s spokesperson said in a statement:
“We know that people share a range of meaningful moments on Facebook. As a result, everyone has various kinds of memories that can be surfaced – good, bad, and everything in between. So, for the millions of people who use ‘On This Day’, we’ve added these filters to give them more control over the memories they see.”
“On This Day” is an excellent feature that brings back the old posts of a user in the same day but in a different year. Since it was launched early this year, Facebook was already aware of the possible emotional problems that may rise.
Now, they’re trying to help users avoid recycling those stressful memories. While Facebook automatically gets rid of posts that feature people that have been listed as romantic partner, they can also consider hiding posts of a certain date that a user indicates is off-limits.
Not all Facebook users can appreciate the use of these filters, but sooner though, they’ll be able to understand how this considerable approach can be beneficial to them.
