Facebook, is using its corporate AI system, to drew up a map of the location of the inhabitants of the earth with an accuracy of up to 5 meters. This map is needed so that Facebook can provide its online services more efficiently.

The map will also help other companies plan the development of their networks, including Internet access. In the near future, Facebook plans to set up a satellite internet access system and needs to know the density of people on the planet.

For the first time, Facebook representatives mentioned this project in February 2016. That card was then ready for 20 countries around the world, and now their number has increased to 23.

The dedicated algorithm has compiled the map by combining the conversations of users with high-resolution satellite images. Artificial Intelligence is automatically trained to recognize buildings and buildings that people create, helping to calculate the location of users. The man has built buildings of less than 1% of the land, and the training of this AI with such unbalanced data is not easy, but now everything is ready.

For the compilation of the first 20 smaller maps, 350 TB of 21.6 million square kilometers were processed. The neural network uses about 1,000 servers that scan 14.6 billion satellite photographs and mark all the buildings built by humans.

Facebook predicts the use of drones and other unmanned vehicles in this project and is now inviting aerospace technicians to work.
