NewZealand 2016 - Via Ferrata
Grasping hands onto the iron handles, unhooking and hooking, and pulling ourselves up, this was actually easier than we thought, but somewhat still tiring!
Our first ever Via Ferrata – which translates into Road made out of Iron. They are Iron steps fixed into the rocks which support tons, and the one in Queenstown is the first NZ Via Ferrata which was built in 2003.
Being skeptical which activity to choose between the Canyoning or this (same company offering both), we opted for the Via Ferrata as we had done the Canyoning before, so we wanted to try something different. Assuming it was 'an easier version of climbing', we quickly found out it was more interesting than the name portrayed! Just a 2minute drive out of the hussle and bussle of Queenstown Area, we wore all our safety gear, were provided with all the details necessary, and immediately took off!
We also had the advantage of just being three people, along with our guide Gus.

We quickly adapted. Not to mention he found us all quite good, and therefore climbed more than what we should have, and were given a harder route. Stunning scenery over Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu, but climbing up the rocky hill at a steady pace, we could relax, enjoy the view, but still felt challenged climbing cliffs. Not being toooo sunny and hot, it was a good and stable two hour activity, well worth the price you pay.
It was such an amazing experience to see if you can trust yourself by hooking up, and trying to let go of your hands to fall backwards... Such a scary moment!

The final destination – the top of Queenstown Hill – was an absolute satisfying feeling... JUST LOOK AT HOW FAR WE CLIMBED!
Everyone at Reception was beyond helpful and friendly, and we would like to say a huge thanks for the opportunity we were given, and absolutely do not regret in choosing the Via Ferrata. An absolute-must in Queenstown Area!

We might have found ourselves a new hobby!
