Another Extinct Bird, The Moa Nalo From Hawaii!! A Large Flightless Duck!!!!

in #extinctbirds6 years ago

Moa Nalo were a species of big ducks (the wikipedia says gooselike ducks) who inhabited some of the Hawaiian islands. Unfortunately after the islands became inhabited by people, the species slowly began to die off probably because of hunting and changes in the ecosystem and to their food sources. They were flightless too, and very large, sometimes up to 16 pounds!!! That is a big duck!!

There are not any photographs of course, so we have to rely on drawings from stories of these animals. If you are interested in them read the wikipedia page they have lots of good information. The image is from google image search of Moa nalo.
