USD values are calculated per day via API feeds from Poloniex (for STEEM and SBD values in BTC) and Coindesk (for USD value of BTC). For the top 50 reports in USD terms, I take the average USD value for STEEM and SBD for the week using the daily average which came out to:

  • STEEM: $1.21304
  • SBD: $0.88668

Previous Report:

  • STEEM: $1.13783
  • SBD: $0.78223

Assumptions

Please see the first report for a detailed explanation of my personal assumptions related to what this data could mean (along with commentary on previous reports). What it does not show is people powering up, powering down, or if they are buying or selling on an exchange. It's just some interesting data dealing with transfers to and from exchange accounts.

Commentary

  • The withdrawal to deposit ratio finally took a break and leveled out at 9.23 to 1. Could that explain the price increase we're seeing?

  • @fyrstikken topped the deposit list this week! Maybe one of his famous rants on discord has something to do with it.

  • Over $2.2M heading out the door this week. Wow! That's quite a lot of money.

  • We see @alittle, @alot, and @afew cashing out quite a bit. Interesting.

  • This is not investment advice, but if you want to move up the Steem Power rankings sometimes all you need to do is hold longer than someone next to you.

  • Last week's powerdown amounts were in the green by over 31%. Could that have contributed to the price increase we saw? This next week has slowed down quite a bit, but still in the green by 7.9%.

wow a lot of people withdrawing heaps of money from steemit - i had no idea the situation was so unbalanced. Thanks for publishing this and also for dropping in on my post - it is always uplifting for me when i see your name on my upvotes. Keep well my friend -David

Yeah, it's been pretty unbalanced for a long time, but... from another perspective, it's similar to bitcoin miners cashing out their profits also. What gets me excited to think about is if the trend ever reverses. If demand goes up and people start powering up, what will the price of STEEM do?

Thanks for the witness vote! :)

that right - if we can help these people find confidence in the future of steem and reverse the trend -- then the price will increase significantly

Sorry to bother, but another one that just occurred me while admiring this post's performance.

How can a post with 13 views have 139 votes?

When a post shows up in your feed you can upvote it without actually clicking on it and viewing it.

Bot voting is a big part of how things work around here. Steem Power holders find authors they want to support and configure something like Steem Voter to automatically vote on the post without reading it. They not only support content creators they like, but also earn curation rewards. Some see this as a big problem. Others see it as the prerogative of those who have Steem Power.

Hi @nwtnt
I m new to this community and I m trying to figure out the answer of same question that you quoted. Would be great if someone explain it.
thanks in advance

See my reply. Hope that helps.

Red it. Useful info

Hey @lukestokes, Thanks for your great effort on building this community!!

I've been modeling steemit's economics on a spreadsheet and already got a lot of questions answered, but there is one that I'm still failing on finding a good article about and certainly you could solve it for me.

What happens with upvote reward's size in SD in the case of a huge power down movement draining 50%-70% of the money in the system?

Tks in advance!!

huge power down movement draining 50%-70% of the money in the system?

I don't really know what you mean? Can you give an example? The specific economics of vote value based on the VEST shares, reward pool size, and current price of STEEM isn't something I've explored in much detail yet.

I think I got it anyway! :)

In fact I was forgetting about the reward pool rules.

I was asking in the case of many participants selling their vests and withdrawing money from the economic system by selling their STEEMs in the market.

What would happen to the voting value of those who remained with their vests untouched?

But since the STEEM price would fall sharply and the reduced amount of vested money would reduce the generation capacity of the reward pool, it would just reduce the vote value, right?

Yes, but keep in mind, for long-term investors, VEST Rewards Are More Important Than Post Price. When the price goes back up (and I believe it would as other investors come in and buy it up cheap), the those who held and increased their percentage of total VEST holdings as others were powering down will have that much more overall value and vote influence.

I completely agree, and thanks for the link!! It has some HUGE knowledge accumulated there!!

On comments, you wrote about feeling " there is great value here, but not fully convinced the economics are sound or, if they are, enough people will realize that and invest."

And "some in the steemit.chat price channel feeling the economics were broken (and they could be right)".

Do you still have some doubts about it 10 months later?

The economics were broken (way too much inflation) but they were fixed via a hard fork. Are they "working" now? I'm not sure. I guess that all depends on timescale. Maybe we'll know in a couple years.

thats a lot of information

very good analysis, I really hope that with time we will be getting huge sign ups here leading to more deposits than withdrawals. You are doing a great job here and deserve a lot of upvotes. I outlined the ingenuity of steemit and the issue we have with regards to scammers-see my latest post for details. I wish you a blessed week.

I was looking for this kind of information. I got clear information from this post.
Thanks for such effort. @lukestokes

A very good post. And can add insight.
nice.

STEEM will be interesting when EOS starts! Until then my objective is to buy as much as possible... =)

Wooo.. gud job

Very helpful information , thanks for sharing @lukestokes.

I am Cornholio! (Whoa! Hm heh... that was cool) I need T.P. for my bunghole! Come out with your pants down!
