The example of Nehemiah: Shouldn't you walk in the fear of our God to avoid the reproach of our Gentile enemies? Nehemiah 5:9

in #examplelast month

Nehemiah was a member of the tribe of Judah who acted as governor of the province of Judea after the return of the Jews to the promised land with the end of the Babylonian empire. This official of the persian court is a clear example of the importance of the fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion, and equanimity) for the good government. Nehemiah was not only in charge of rebuilding the walls of the city of Jerusalem but also fought the oppression to which many of his brothers were subjected.
Nehemiah followed the path of David, Solomon, and Hezekiah, and by his actions, especially his uprightness of heart, it can be said that he was a personification of the Kingdom of God, the dominion or empire of God's perfections.
The Book of Nehemiah relates that the character of this book, having just arrived in Jerusalem with the authorization of Artaxerxes I, had to endure the doubts of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, because others had already failed in the task of reconstruction, and the enmity of the Samaritans who viewed Nehemiah with great distrust. The Bible relates that during the reconstruction work of the city, a riot arose in the town, because of the great burdens that the simple and ordinary people had to bear: "We have had to borrow money to pay the king's tax on our fields and vineyards" Nehemiah 5:4. As had already happened in the time of King Solomon with the construction of the first temple, but Nehemiah was not like Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, a hard-hearted man.
Nehemiah then deliberated in front of officials and nobles: "You are charging your own people interest!" Nehemiah 5:7; and continued: "What you are doing is not right. Shouldn't you walk in the fear of our God to avoid the reproach of our Gentile enemies?" Nehemiah 5:9. Nehemiah recounts the Bible finally, preached with the example, and as a governor he refused to collect the taxes that corresponded to him as administrator to relieve the people.
The story of Nehemiah shows the importance of common sense, self-confidence, and determination to avoid failure; only those who persevere in wisdom like Nehemiah achieve success.
