THE LAST "HERITAGE DAYS FESTIVAL" FOR THE YEAR AT THE BAKER CREEK HEIRLOOM SEED COMPANY PLUS A CHANCE TO MEET SOME STEEMIANS

in #event7 years ago (edited)

Anyone else operate on short notice?

More than a year ago, I was purchasing my first piglets for our homestead with some funds I had received from steemit. As I was driving, I noticed that I very close to Mansfield, MO, which is home to the Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company. I knew of the work of Baker Creek and had already purchased some seeds from them online. Though it was late in the day, I didn't want to be so close and not stop in, so I gave them a call. They told me that although their normal hours of operation were almost done for the day, they would still be there and we could still stop in.

With a couple @little-peppers, I stopped in and checked the place out. We had a wonderful time checking out most of the place, including the seed store, garden, and animals that they had on sight.

Near the end of the post that I made last year about our visit, I mentioned the following:

They also host Heritage Day Festivals held monthly on the first Sunday of each month from March thru October. From what I hear, there's a lot of music, crafts, produce and even garden speakers! I'll have to try to make it to some of these next year!

Somehow, I never made it up there. However, today @bluerthangreen & @allforthegood mentioned that they were going to the Heritage Days Festival there tomorrow. Since it's the last one for the year, I realized it is my last chance to make one this year. So, though it is on short notice, I'm going!

HOW ABOUT YOU?

I know that there are quite a few steemians who enjoy gardening, homesteading, or just having fun who live in Arkansas and Missouri. I'm not sure how many of you operate on as short of notice as we do, but I figured I'd tip you off to at least give you the opportunity.

Whether it is to pick up some seeds, enjoy the festival, meet some other steemians, or all three, you'll have a chance tomorrow. The Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company is located in Mansfield, MO, which is about 90 minutes from Branson and just a few miles away from the home of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum for any "Little House on the Prairie" fans.

According to the events page on their website, they recommend that you:

Round up your family and come to our exciting, fun-filled festivals that celebrate the growing season with produce, music, crafts and garden speakers!

If you want any more information, you can check out their website by clicking HERE or see what else they have to offer by enjoying my post from last year by clicking HERE.

I personally find this place encouraging because not only do members of their team periodically travel around the world to locate seeds from rare fruits and vegetables that we could be growing here, but also, almost ¾ of a million gardeners purchasing seeds from this one little company. How cool is that?

Also, for these festivals, they "offer free tent and RV camping; no need to register. There are also hotels in the local area. Some food is available at the festivals," according to their webpage.

You may want to check their website to see the recommended route to get there, but here is their mailing address, which is at their street address.

Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Co.
2278 Baker Creek Road
Mansfield, MO 65704

For those of you who are not able to make it, I'll try to make sure to do a post about the Heritage Days Festival and at least let you enjoy what you missed. I hope that some of you can make it! If so, we will see you there!

For more information you can call 417-924-8917 or visit www.rareseeds.com. Their normal hours of operation are from Sunday to Friday, from 8 am to 4 pm.

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

I like your ideas and projects.

I wish I could, and you know it, my friend, but so much to do here recovering form the hurricane. However, I know you will be pushing steemit, just like you should be. I hope you find new friends and some new seeds and animals that you can use on your place there.

I've got so many seeds anyway, but yeah, I'll be picking up more!

yay!!! I'm so excited for you! @hethur240 and I love the company. She has been a couple of times and I know one of the women who works there very well! The plants and seeds from there are the best!! And I love how they run their company, everybody is genuine and kind, takes care of their people!! Hope you have lots of fun!!

They are some great folks there and I'll be glad to return!

Have fun!! I met a few of them at the Permaculture Voices Conferences here in California and they started the Heirloom seed Festival in Santa Rosa and grew it from a few hundred participants to 10,000s. Joseph Simcox has been to several of our events and I always love to hear him speak.
He is a true explorer and his backyard across America program is cool. The sad thing is that many do not return the seeds to him - but that is another story.
Hope you and your wife and your little peppers have a great time!!

Ah - permaculture voices - D I E G O?

I'm sure that we will have a great time!

Yes. Diego is my friend. We go way back :) We met in a Master composting class a long time ago. Then we got into the rare fruit growers. Took permaculture design courses (different teachers) and brought Paul Wheaton to San Diego. Diego organized a workshop at our friends Alden's place and we organized the Southern California Permaculture convergence.
I actually was supposed to be on one of his first podcasts but I was too shy because of my accent. Now, I have my own podcast :) Diego was my guest and he released it on Permaculture Voices as well and I am his guest in October again.
The conferences were awesome - but not sustainable. Too many people in the permaculture world don't want to pay for anything :(

Wow! Super cool and small world too!

Very small world. Have you met Diego?

No, not as of yet. Definitely heard some of his stuff. @Bluerthangreen showed me some of his podcasts initially.

Cool.
Speaking of podcasts. If you are ever open for an interview - let me know. Right now, I am trying to find a person who really can explain cryptocurrency and the potential. Jack Spirko has talked about it forever on the Survival Podcast. Our listeners are for the most part in the beginning of their sustainable living path - at least that is what I think.
After a show on that, I would love to interview you - how you made it work for you and all that.
No worries if you don't want to. I am really enjoying reading your posts and love seeing how committed you are to your family. Good stuff!

Personally, I would love to. We will have to set something up! Thanks.

HOLY S*** BALLS!!!!!!!!!! You are that close to them?!?! They are the PRIMARY source of genetics for my farm. I have branched out some but Baker Creek is the best seed house in the entire country. If anyone wants TRUE heirloom seeds, they are THE source.

Yeah, not too far at all. We loved their seeds before we ever met them, and are so encouraged by all their efforts!

Seriously they rule. I know of no person that is as dedicated to the heirlooms as Jere. The dedication to the cause, to the maintaining of the original genetics, to the overall desire to help humanity eat well, it's astounding. I strive for that type of dedication.

HOLY WOW!!! PLEASE present Steemit to them if given the opportunity. We now have SMTs which could give them a potential foothold.

your post is very great, sorry yes why ya you never get into my bolg but I am your very faithful followers, every time you make my post always there, but you never think I exist.

Such is not intentional. I am but one man, with a large family and a lot of work to do. I cannot make it everywhere, but I do try to get around, which is why my current voting power is barely over 30%.

yes my friend can understand but my friend try to get into my blog after the strength of comrades back again, do not forget your weak friend friend,

my friends want to ask? where do I send my little SBD so he upvote me.

I am not sure "where to send SBD to get upvotes." I have never done that.

yes I really understand because you are a lot of steam power if I do not have steam power so when I upvote my own post the results are not there, so if you have your strength back I ask you please visit my blog then if possible.so where should I chat s...

My votes are worth about $1. Not very large, but still something. I will try to check on your post later. Please do not beg or try to guilt trip.

thank you my friend will try not to beg anymore but my business friend to get into my post.
a little more questions friend? so how do I make a post so that people can get into my blog because I've tried the best for my post.

I have posted to the best of my ability about four times a day, every day, for about 15 months straight now... I have no quick easy solution for you. Try your hardest forever and never give up is the best that you can do.

Really nice of you..it's impossible for me to come from nigeria😁

I love Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds Company! I grew a bunch of crazy looking squash from that company this year. I live in northeast Kansas, but maybe I can go on a road trip with the hubs and check them out in person.

Thanks for another informative post @papa-pepper!

I would highly recommend stopping by in person! It was well worth it for us!

so I have to talk to my friend via steemit chat or by what mate

I am not sure how you talk to your friend. If he's on chat, that should work.

yes thank you no matter what my friend will try my best.

I'm sorry to hear that.

hope your efforts can rise again
