"I feel that a person as old as I should have the full rights of a citizen, including assisted voluntary death,"

The Australian David Goodall, who at 104 is the oldest scientist in the country, plans to start a trip that will end in Switzerland, where he will undergo euthanasia despite not suffering from terminal illness.

The scientist, an activist in favor of the legalization of euthanasia in Australia, indicated that the purpose of his trip is to reach the European country, where assisted death is legal.

Last month, during his last birthday, Goodall said he would spend the rest of his days campaigning for voluntary euthanasia to be legalized in the state of Western Australia, where he resides.

"If someone decides to die, then that should be fair enough and I do not think anyone else should interfere"

The Australian changed his mind and starts last Wednesay a trip without return, whose first stop will be the French city of Bordeaux, where he will visit relatives, and then conclude in the Swiss city of Basel.

Assisted euthanasia is illegal in many countries and in Australia it is only legal in the state of Victoria, whose capital is Melbourne, where it was approved last year.
