Switzerland covers melting glaciers with blanket ❄️
Rhone Glacier, the oldest glacier in the Swiss Alps, the highest and most extensive mountain range system in Europe, was covered with an enormous white blanket to keep it cool and prevent it from melting in the summer.
As global temperatures rise, covering the glacier with a blanket has become a common solution these days to prevent glacier from melting and it could reduce the seasonal melting by up to 70 percent, according to AFP. The unique view of glacier covered with a white blanket poses for a new look for tourists to enjoy.
Mankind have caused a quarter of the globe’s glacial loss between 1851 and 2010, and about 69 percent of glacial melting between 1991 and 2010, according to Live Science.
