Ethereum mining. Is the DAG file size affecting your hashrate? Here the solution
If you are a miner and you have your rig setted up with AMD cards mining Ethereum, you might be aware that the DAG file size is affecting your hashrate, and if not it will very soon. As today we are at epoch #131 and it is increasing every 5 days.
Doing some test with Claymore in benchmark mode, you'll see that you will loose about 10% (depending on your AMD card) of your hashrate in the next 40 days at epoch 140, and so on with the increase of the epoch every 5 days you will keep loosing hashrate.
Here you can find a good post expleining all this.
This problem looks like is affecting only AMD cards and not NVIDIA cards, so I've tried reaching out AMD asking if they were aware of the issue and surprisingly they replied to me saying thath they are aware of the issue and they are working to solve it in collaboration with Calymore, but here comes the best part, according to AMD knowledge only Claymore is affected on the hashrate drop cosed to the increased size of the epoch and not for example Sgminer.
So if your hashrate is getting affected to the DAG file size try mining with Sgminer let us know here in the comments below if this is helping you.
Is using a normal computer for mining even worth it? Here in germany the prices are freaking high for energy.
A normal computer with a good graphic card, it's worth it. Lets say if you have a computer with a rx580 or rx 480 or a NVIDIA 1070 etc, you will probably make 3.5 euro par day, and spend about 1.4 euro electricity. Assuming your computer consume 300w and your energy cost 0.2 euro/Kw
