Demeter ICO - Rent Farms, Grow Food - All Decentralized

in #ethereum7 years ago

I like when ICOs meet some real world trouble or at least help people who normally loose money due to middlemen and such. This guys came with interesting concept of the way you can rent a micro farm and get stuff from it directly or let farmer for the time of hire grow stuff there that you want.

From what i read seems they already runned real life micofarms business in itialy and now just want to push it worldwide and decentralized.

When you buy produce from the grocery store - you’re buying at far higher prices than the farmer sells it for. Listing fees, middlemen and more drive up the price. And you never truly know what that “organic” label really means.

Now everything will be direct and on blockchain and you will be able to pay farmer directly, in some developing countries people get literally 1-2% of price that its sold for after export.

Demeter wants to connect farmers with consumers in a transparent and decentralized way to cut costs and keep it as a secure smart contract.

Video Explanation

You get cheaper, organic, fresh food. And farmers earn a bit more as well. Sounds like a win-win situation if you like healthy food, and currently, everyone likes it ;)

Wow! What an amazing currency! Where did you find out about this @kingscrown?

I am part of a group, called the Earth Nation. We are a planetary alliance of caring people that have launched a humanitarian currency, called Equality Keys.

Our currency is the first cryptocurrency in the world to be distributed by a truly democratic voting process. One vote per person, and we fund humanitarian organizations that provide for people in need, ecocommunities that create rent free living space, and cooperative businesses that fairly distribute wealth.

We also have the worlds first significant basic income program.

@kingscrown i followed this post to your profile. You are very intelligent and i enjoy your well grounded perspective. I have followed you and liked many of your posts.

Will you find a moment to look at my content and tell me what you think?

hi how are you now, before i want to introduce myself first, @ bilqis07 and i want to thank you for your help to vote me and also follow me

Good concept! However, I am a bit skeptical about how to introduce blockchain tech to the farmers... not many of them are well-informed and highly educated (beside developed countries). So the market share might be not that big for now.
Hope it will be a good one!

How will delivery be handled? Will it be reliant on individual farmers signing up? I know many farmers, young and old. Technology is not exactly a strong suit.

prolly smart contract but read whole WP to be sure :)

I am more talking about physical delivery of the goods. It would require each farmer to have a dedicated deliveryman or the customer to travel directly to the farm. Both scenarios are bad. Sure driving to farm sounds fun but that would grow old very quick. For the small farmer, outsourcing delivery would also be a hassle. They would have to also hire a secretary to handle any scale. It's asking a lot.
(Stopped here to read whitepaper)
I have read the whitepaper and it say's that the farmer will deliver the goods or you can collect yourself. Farmers would not like the public coming and going. Health and safety.

Honestly it's a pretty poor ICO. It brings nothing to the market that requires it's own crypto. It is making so many assumptions. Expecting farmers and the public to use there crypto for everything that an e-bay clone could do, create the international delivery infrastructure. Because people who live near these farms can already get them at a lower cost so international would be essential in each of the demographics from the white paper.

Is there anything that I am missing?

I was thinking along the same lines. Also just happened to read the following from WOWS : https://betanews.com/2017/10/23/icos-are-a-scam/

So you're saying you could actually better outsource & blockchainize the distribution?

Few month ago, I participated to the ecobits ICO who is producing spirulina

and preserving biodiversity.

Every once in a while, an ICO shows up with an actual concept that actually matters in meatspace. This one is one such.

However, there are quite a few unanswered logistical questions like just how many microfarms are we talking about and where would they be located? How do you match supply and demand geographically speaking? You don't want one farm servicing too many people or too many farms with too few customers.

Interesting, but not for me.

I love the idea of this, for sure it will be a very challenging road ahead but fully implemented this could really change the world for the better.

I love the concept of this ICO. We should care about our food and the farmers who provide us our food. Farmers all over the world are suffering because of the giant food corporations who are exploiting the farmers. In last one decade, more than a million Indian farmers have committed suicide, because they were not able to pay back the loans, they took to purchase and grow the GMO seeds of giant international food incorporation, like Monsanto.
Present Food economic system needs to change, otherwise we will die of starvation.
I wish this ICO all the success.
