Is cryptocurrency the future??

3 cryptocurrencies--and how they can fundamentally change the future! These are some of my thoughts on how blockchain technology can disrupt industries and give life to new ones.

1. steemit (STEEM)- Goodbye Reddit
   
   Initially I had my reservations about the idea of Steemit. Wouldn't associating money with making posts cause people to write "clickbaity" and misleading titles all the time in search for views? Not exactly. See, the beauty of steemit is it's ability to allow people like you and me to essentially choose what is seen as valuable news in this community. In other words, it's the democratization of information--allowing us to collectively decide what is seen as critical to be worthy of our attention. Though it's in early stages, steemit can be a major player in the circle of social media super-giants.

I can foresee a future in which journalists, artists, entertainers, informants, or perhaps even meme creaters can make an actual living on this website, creating content for people to enjoy or to learn from. Just as there are professional Youtubers that seek to entertain, to educate, or to simply provide company to, I believe this platform can do just the same. The list should be as follows: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Reddit, and steemit.

1. golem (GNT)- The Sharing Economy for Computing Power
   
   We've seen in recent years companies like Uber, Lift, and Airbnb introducing a "sharing economy" in which regular people like you and me can use our assets like a car or a vacant room to generate profit. Initially, the concept of largely replacing the taxi business or allowing strangers to sleep in one of your rooms for money seemed ridiculous! And now it is a fact of life. Do not discount GNT yet.

With what golem is doing--yes indeed--you can rent out the computing power you are not using to others and be compensated in GNT--imagine that! An Uber for computers. We are so psychologically fixated on what the technology of today can do that we are unable to imagine with enough creativity the capability tommorow's technology.

1. Ethereum (ETH)- Internet 3.0
   
   We all know about Ethereum. This cryptocurrency darling has gone up 2000% this year which is every investor's fantasy. The implications of smart contract technology and Dapps is far-reaching and revolutionary. Smart contract means that if you and I agree to do a transaction under a set of circumstances, that transaction is binding. We don't need banks to make sure that I did what I was supposed to. We don't need the government or any other central authority. We don't need to trust the people that have the money to safely give it to you. No, it is literally written into the coding of Ethereum that if conditions 'x' and 'y' are fulfilled, then 'z' will happen. With JP Morgan, Intel, Microsoft, Samsung, Toyota and others joining the EEA (Enterprise Ethereum Alliance), the future for ETH looks amazing. Even now, trading very close to $200, ETH seems appealing, and I do not plan to sell anytime soon.

Ethereum provides the foundations for a new internet in which currency and value are intertwined with the digital world. There are so many far-reaching applications of smart-contract technologies that it would be futile to try to list them all. The decentralization of Ethereum allows for the common people to actualize the concept of digitized democracy.
