Can an Ethereum ICO fund a randomized control trial for cyclodextrin?

in #ethereum7 years ago (edited)

In my earlier blogpost I mentioned Cyclodextrin being able to dissolve cholesterol and help the body remove plaque. Since cardiovascular disease causes 1/3 of deaths worldwide, does it not make sense to do something about this with some of our digital token based wealth?

"What cyclodextrin did was to reprogram the macrophage so it didn't create such a big inflammatory response," Espevik said. That meant the macrophage could soak up excess cholesterol and remove it, while reducing the inflammation in the artery walls and thus reducing the likelihood of causing a plaque to form.

Latz estimates it will take approximately EUR 1 million to do the trials. One potential drawback is also one of the most positive aspects of cyclodextrin: the substance, which is a type of sugar, has already been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for use in humans. But because it has been in existence for some time, it cannot be patented. That makes it harder to get a drug company interested in developing cyclodextrin to treat heart disease, but it also will make it easier to get the drug approved to treat heart disease if the clinic trials support the research findings.

An ICO can be launched on Ethereum or EOS to fund the random control trial for Cyclodextrin and to produce a supplement. A subscription model can be used to pre-sell the supplement and the money from sales can be used to buyback the token held by token holders who contributed to the presale.

Thoughts?

This is a great idea. Our company iSolve.io and project Blockrx.com are blockchain initiatives focused on the Pharmaceutical space. We have many pharma manufacturing partners and are putting together use cases in Clinical trials and Supply chain.

Im going to share this idea with some partners and see if we can get some traction.

Following lets stay in touch.

That is awesome that someone is taking the incentive this post calls for, especially when you are focusing on the pharmaceutical part of the world.

The blockchain seems like it would be a good tech to back stuff like patient journals and monitoring medicine distribution, great to see people investing to adapt this tech to a much needed part of society.

All the luck to you and your projects, will follow and support anyway i can!

that is awesome, thank you for the support .

I'm in agreement. When you size up these recent ICOs vs. the amount needed for this and other major medical breakthroughs, you're 100% right and this absolutely could be a profound way to start funding all sorts of research.

So why don't you and others blog about this topic so more awareness can be brought to it? I'll upvote you if you bring it to my attention.

Since we are all humans and all get the same diseases eventually we all have an incentive to want to fund something like this if it has a good chance of success.

I'm with u @dana-edwards I took a screenshot of your comment as a reminder to research and blog around this topic in the near future. Best wishes to you!

Our future and the next generations future is all dependent upon the discovery and advancement of science in the act of curing and finding cures for human beings

I'm a doctor and I think this is the future of research.

If statistics could be attached to the block chain as well it could be a useful way to tie it into the ICO model. Maybe Health stats tracked via a blockchain dapp or a timed medication alert system or even a pharmacy dapp that tracks patients re-ups using block chain tracking.

So many good ideas that should be easily implemented and produced and then funding the genuine health benefits with the rest.

Great idea hopefully steem folk see this and help out. Changing the world is a worthy cause!

Stay majestic @dana-edwards

This hole Ethereum hype is very confusing and it the chance that it will drop is greater than rising tbh.

ETH's future is bright... So many possibilities

great 👍

That's an interesting approach to blue sky science. Add in the cost of a few blockchain developers to the total though. Those guys deserve to get paid.

The smart contract wouldn't have to be so expensive really. The blockchain Ethereum and EOS are developed separately and they are already extremely well paid.

Hey, sorry to hijack this comment thread - I wanted to direct message you on steemitchat but couldn't find you.

I just had a totally unexpected conversation with ned about the tax implications we previously talked about and wanted to talk to you about it. DM me on steemit chat when you get a chance - I'm going to go to sleep now, but I'll be back on tomorrow, possibly during the day and definitely in the evening.
