Story: Matthew and the Dragons (Part XXXVII)
Part XXXVII
Inside a valley on the island, the situation is tense. Two opposing dragon factions are staring at each other. The two factions are the pro and anti-human faction. The pro human faction believed that humans is to be left alone to manage their affairs, while the anti-human faction considered them to immature and dangerous, hence they must be put under the dragon's control.
Before, the pro human faction is of the majority but the current state of the war tilted in favor of the anti-human faction. Nonetheless, the pro human faction still boosted considerable amount of influence and power despite the fact that only the silver dragon offered his assisstance in the war. Even so, the pro human faction's presence ensures that the anti-human faction will not go too far.
But after their crushing defeat against the kingdom, the anti-human faction wanted to unite all greater dragons and bring the kingdom to its knees. Obviously, the pro human faction disagree to this, especially the silver dragon, hence the tense situation.
"You fools! Are your eyes just decorations? Humanity are going out of control! Their newest weapon is a great danger to us all!" The black drsgon rages, as he tries to convince the other side.
"Hmph! All of this will not happen if you did not force their hands! Everything that had happened is the result of your arrogance!" The silver dragon growled back.
"Nonesense! All I wanted is to put them under our control! What's wrong with that?!" The black dragon refuted angrily.
"Control? Why do we need to control them? They too are a race blessed by the world itself! There's no need for us to control them, your words are erroneous to begin with," the silver dragon blasted back. He then adds, "those weapons would not even be created if there lives and freedom are not threatened! And, even if they do create them, it won't be this fast, it would atleast take a few hundred years!"
"What are you saying? Isn't those weapons created by a genius of their race? A young human called Matthew?" The black dragon argued, a bit confuse.
"Hah! No matter how much of a genius the lad is, there is no way that he could do all of that. Have you not notice? Everytime a greater threat emerges, mankind's power and weaponry increases! When I said that they are blessed by the world, that is exactly what I mean!" The silver dragon explained seriously. He then adds, "mankind's rise to prominence is already predetermined but that doesn't mean we need to be enemy with them! They have there role to play but so do we!"
Everyone is silent after hearing what the silver dragon said. They all knew this truth deep inside but their pride as the strongest species prevented them from accepting this fact. After all, beimg on top of the world is a powerful and wonderful feeling that one cannot have enough of. In other words their pride had become their biggest hubris!
"Enough! Let us just discuss how we can solve this dilema. Nothing good come out if we argue amongst ourselves," proclaimed one of the most ancient and powerful greater dragon—the golden dragon!
Both the silver dragon and the black dragon stop arguing after hearing the golden dragon spoke. The golden dragon is a member of the pro human faction, despite this though, he could be considered the most neutral in the ongoing struggle between the two races.
The golden dragon is also the dragon that the black dragon wanted to pull to his side the most, as one word from him and most greater dragons of the pro human faction would side with him.
"Then what do you proposed lord golden dragon," the blue dragon from the anti-human faction asked.
The golden dragon looked at the greater dragons aroumd him and spoke, "truce!"
