Unchained freedom, is it but a dream?
The endless abyss, we need to brave.

Endless things we desire and crave
but time always passes like a stream.

Without light, we are left depraved;
without love the world seems so grim.
The endless abyss, we need to brave.

Even the calmest of sea have countless waves;
even the most silent can also scream.
To the whims of fate, we are but slaves.

On self-inflicted demise, can we be saved?
The most secured fortress have its seams.
The endless abyss, we need to brave.

Our roads will not always be paved,
sooner or later, we will lose our steam.

What is a Villanelle?

 

A villanelle (also known as villanesque) is a nineteen-line poetic form consisting of five tercets followed by a quatrain. There are two refrains and two repeating rhymes, with the first and third line of the first tercet repeated alternately until the last stanza, which includes both repeated lines. The villanelle is an example of a fixed verse form. The word derives from Latin, then Italian, and is related to the initial subject of the form being the pastoral.
