Use of Galena
Galena is a mineral that is very important because it functions as ore for most of the world's lead production. Galena is also a significant ore from silver. The most important use of lead now is in lead batteries. A special battery contains about 20 pounds of lead and must be replaced every four or five years. Lead batteries are also used as an emergency power supply source for computer networks, communication facilities and other important systems. Lead is also one of the metals used in energy storage systems associated with power plants and hybrid vehicles.
