How good is the American skill in science? Interested in the question, the National Science Foundation conducts surveys every two to two years to evaluate them.

To get valid results, the agency uses different questions year after year. Even so, all questions are still related to physics and biology.

These questions are given to the general public and college graduates. Uniquely, most people are confused with this quiz.

But, what about you? Would you also be confused with the following questions?

1. True or false, the center of the earth is very hot?

85 percent of the general public in America responds correctly. A higher figure is found in college graduates, which is 89 percent.

The correct answer is that the center of the earth is hot.

Quoted from the Live Science report in 2013, the temperature at the center of the earth is estimated at 1,000 degrees Celsius. This temperature is as hot as the sun's surface.

2. True or false, all the world's seeds have been in motion for billions of years and will continue to move?

81 percent of the general public answered correctly. While at college graduates 87 percent answered correctly.

The answer is true that all the continents in the world are moving since thousands of years ago, and will continue to move.

The earth's outermost layer called the lithosphere breaks into a tectonic plate that shifts a few inches each year.

This tectonic plate theory presupposes that the great super continent of Pangea breaks and moves because of the movement of the plates.

3. Which is right, does the earth surround the sun or vice versa?

73 percent of the general public gave the correct answer. Higher numbers seen in college graduates.

While the right answer is the earth around the sun.

Before there were photos and videos that proved it, astronomers in ancient times observed the phases of Venus, the moon belonging to Jupiter and the motion of stars.

These observations prove that the earth is not just silent, but orbiting or circling the sun.

4. True or false, all radioactivity is man-made?

70 percent of the general public in America responded appropriately. The number who responded appropriately to college graduates reached 80 percent.

The right answer is wrong. Radioactive material is also present in nature.

To note, the sun and the star emit cosmic radiation that interacts with the Earth's atmosphere. In addition, natural radioactive material is also present in the soil, water, and vegetation.

5. True or false, electrons are smaller than atoms?

Unfortunately, in this question only 48 percent of the general public in America responded appropriately. While college graduates only slightly better, ie 59 percent.

The right answer is true, the electrons are smaller than the atoms.

Electrons have a much smaller size than protons and neutrons that make up the nuclei of atoms. In other words, electrons have smaller sizes than atoms.

6. True or false, lasers work by focusing sound waves?

Only 45 percent of the general public in America responded appropriately. A fairly low number is also found in college graduates, which is 52 percent.

The right answer is wrong. That is, the laser does not work by focusing the sound waves.

Laser itself is an abbreviation of Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. From these abbreviations we can know that the laser works by focusing light waves instead of sounds.

7. True or false, the universe begins with a big bang?

Among the general public in the United States who followed the survey, only 39 percent who answered correctly. College graduates who followed the survey and answered correctly only 44 percent skitar.

The right answer is true, the universe starts from a big explosion.

This explosion is called the Big Bang. Even so, according to his theory, Big Bang is actually more accurately called the expansion than the explosion.

8. True or false, the father's genes that determine whether a child is born male or female?

59 percent of the general public who took the survey responded appropriately. In college graduates visible figures up to 71 percent who answered exactly.

The answer is true.

Reported from Business Insider, Wednesday (02/05/2018), sperm carrying X chromosome (female) or Y (male). This chromosome then determines the sex of the baby.

9. True or false, antibiotics kill viruses and also bacteria?

Only half of the general population in America who are the subject of the survey responded appropriately. While 73 percent graduate college responded appropriately.

For this question, the answer is wrong. That's because antibiotics kill only bacteria instead of viruses.

10. True or false, the man we know today, evolved from the animal species?

52 percent of the general population so subject to the survey responded appropriately. The college graduates have a greater number of 63 percent.

The right answer is true.

Human evolution is also influenced by natural selection. This is one of the most proven theories.
