Sustainable Development Goals

Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) are the set of goals created by the United nations for every United nation country to achieve on or before 2030. Sustainable development goals are the revised version derived from millennium development goals (MDG). They are seventeen in number as compared to the former eight goals which were perceived as not sustainable and quite little in helping developing countries such Nigeria. This goals have been set to run for fifteen years within the period of 2015-2030.

These goals have been carefully selected such that it cut across all aspect and affairs of man and life. It is going to provide lasting solution to the numerous problems of man such as food, shelter, clothing, education, employment, health, ecosysytem, global warming and many more thereby bringing about unlimited benefit for mankind.

This initiative is majorly centered towards the youths and is being moved from schools to schools across different countries. My attention is drawn towards agriculture.

"To successfully implement the SDGs, governments of all countries must play a critical role. Africa is potentially an agricultural powerhouse. The continent has 60 percent of the world’s uncultivated arable land and could grow enough food to meet its own needs and export surpluses. Yet hundreds of millions go hungry. Despite recent progress, Africa’s farmers, most of whom are smallholders, underperform. The Kofi Annan Foundation advocates the transformation of African agriculture to ensure food and nutrition security for all by mobilising leadership and high-level commitment. We bring together leaders from the private sector, civil society and the political sphere to trigger cooperation that benefits farmers and the general population".

We all must emulate such a man and make these goals a reality in order to make the world a better place.
