Manchester United's Worst Recruitment
With a record of 13 league titles, there has been no more successful club than Manchester United since the Premier League began in 1992. Despite recent difficulties, MU are still regarded as one of the most attractive clubs in the world.
The Red Devils' great reputation is able to attract almost all the best players to join them at Old Trafford. There have been many phenomenal players wearing MU uniforms.
Even so, MU also made mistakes in the transfer market. The number of players they brought in turned out to end up being a big disaster at the club.
Here are Manchester United's worst recruits in the Premier League era as reported by FTB90.
Memphis Depay
The Dutchman joined the club in 2015 at a cost of around 25 million pounds and is considered the next superstar. Depay started compared to Cristiano Ronaldo and his performance in the Eredivisie suggested that the Red Devils might succeed in getting a gem.
Unfortunately, Depay was not successful at Manchester United. He made a number of important mistakes and had difficulty penetrating the starting XI. Despite wearing a seven sacred jersey number, Depay has only scored seven goals in 53 appearances at the club and is not seen as a new hero at Old Trafford.
He was sold to Lyon after 18 months, but United included a repurchase clause in the transfer. However, given his appearance in the Premier League, the Red Devils seem reluctant to activate it.
Owen Hargreaves
United made a big gamble when they paid £ 17 million to Bayern Munich to bring Owen Hargreaves to England in 2007. Even though the midfielder was undergoing recovery after suffering a serious broken leg. However, it is not surprising that they have to bear the consequences.
In the short term, Hargreaves seems to be a smart purchase. He helped the club win the Premier League and Champions League in his first season. However, his career at United was later destroyed after that.
He only made five appearances at the club over the next three years due to a series of injuries. His nightmare at Old Trafford finally ended in 2011 after moving freely to rival Manchester City.
William Prunier
The French player's career at Manchester United is very short and only just passes. He only made two appearances at the club during the 1995/96 season when Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to strengthen his defense.
When United suffered a defense crisis, William Prunier was played against QPR. His performance was impressive, but his second and final appearance at United ended his career at Old Trafford.
Against Tottenham, Prunier shows one of the most embarrassing performances in Premier League history. He became the culprit of his team's defeat and is considered one of the worst players of the Red Devils.
Sebastian Veron
Juan Sebastian Veron became the Premier League's most expensive player when he joined United in 2001 with a salary of 24.3 million pounds. The Argentine is considered one of the great midfielders. However, Veron's appearance while in England was very unimpressive.
He could not adapt to the style of playing English football. Veron received a lot of criticism, which caused Sir Alex Ferguson to issue harsh words to the media to defend him.
Veron is one of the failed purchases of the Red Devils. He can't show his best game. Veron was finally sold to Chelsea after only a few years in Manchester and again failed there. He is not suitable for the Premier League at all.
Kleberson
Kleberson was introduced as a Manchester United player with Cristiano Ronaldo, but their careers were completely different.
