SABANG is one of the most western islands in Indonesia, besides its beautiful place and its exotic sea scenery, Sabang keeps many historical relics from time to time.

This is because Sabang has such a strategic place directly adjacent to the Strait of Malacca in the north and east, and the Indian Ocean in the south and west.

Broadly speaking, Sabang's history began in the Aceh kingdom, after which the Dutch colonial period, and in 1942 moved over during the Japanese colonial period.

Until now the historical relics can still be found in the form of buildings that become evidence of the colonists ever settled in Sabang.

If the tourists visit the city located in Pulau Weh, not only the beauty of natural scenery that you can meet, but historical relics are also not less interesting.

Here are some historical places in Sabang that you can visit:

1). Japanese tunnel

Tunnels built during the Japanese occupation It is located in the Aneuk Laot Village, Suka Karya Sub-district, precisely in the hilly area on the edge of the road to Iboih.
From the source of the Preservation Hall of Banda Aceh Cultural Heritage, the tunnel is three in number with a location adjacent to a distance between 50 meters. The entrance faces east and is half-arch, otherwise at the end of the tunnel each tunnel is interconnected with each other.

This tunnel can penetrate the earth's stomach along the 27 meters and the passage measuring 2 meters and 2 meters high in the wake of brick and cement materials, while the roof in the form of cast concrete.

The fort is located in the Village of Cot Ba'u, Suka Karya Subdistrict. Inside the fortress is a fortress with several elements of the main building, reconnaissance buildings, staircases, tubs of water, and cannons as a tool for alert weaponry during the war.
As stated by the Preservation Hall of Banda Aceh Cultural Heritage that the fortress of the defense building used to serve as a prison for prisoners of war, and the position of the complex of Battery A is very strategic and protected underground.

The building is 13,50 meters long, 6.30 meters wide, 3.30 meters high, and has a 40 cm thick wall.

A Battery Fort is also equipped with three reconnaissance buildings, two of which are located in the western part of the fort, and the other in the northern part of the fort.

The three buildings have the same shape and size, berdenah square six with a height of 1.95 meters. Then on the west side there is also a reconnaissance spy for its rectangular enemies with a length of 35 cm and a width of 20 cm.

At the fortress, there are also two ladder arrangements, each located directly at the entrance of the fort facing westward, as well as the ladder to the bai water measuring 650 cm long and 270 cm wide.
