FREE DOWNLOAD OF LETTERS TO DANIEL BOOK

Dear Daniel Craig,

healing hands postcard

With the cast nearly filled out and all locations nearly nailed down I turn my eye toward the end of the month when I skype with THE Mark Maness. Writer, Director, Producer and DP extraordinaire. I met him at AOF Action On Film Megafest in 2016. He was from Arkansas and I was from Kentucky. Two southerners out in Monrovia, CA with our scripts and films.

That was the year I won Best Social Commentary and the Louis Mitchell Award for Best Feature or Short for my proof of concept documentary Letters to Daniel:Breakdown to Bestseller. It was basic and cost me $345 to make.

But before Letters to Daniel was a documentary it was a blog and a memoir. I dreamed of you knowing about the project. But every time I try to get through your gatekeepers they dismiss me as some crazed fan.

In all fairness on the face of it, some random fan’s letters addressed to you are only going to be seen as well stalkerish at best. But my letters aren’t really about you. They’re about how I cope with life on a daily basis in the face pf serious mental illness.

I’ve been alternately ripped off and lied to when it comes to getting my book in front of you. People who had a vested interest in me believing they could do that. Each time I was let down and a little piece of me died knowing they not only failed, but did not respect me enough to just be honest about it.

I’ve tried to get through, but then that fan perception gets lost in translation. Letters to Daniel has helped me find stability and recovery. It’s provided me a platform to advocate for myself and others like me who struggle with bipolar disorder.

That is what I’m most proud of. When a person comes up to me and says ‘I have bipolar disorder’ or ‘my mother had it’ or ‘my husband struggles with it’, I feel good knowing my book helped them or enlightened them about the disease.

Because having bipolar disorder is not about God punishing you, it a chemical imbalance that requires medical treatment in order to be in a one day at a time recovery.

I am proud to say I have been in recovery for 20 years now. Stability was come by a hard rocky road of effort and hard work. A combination of meds, therapy, support from friends and family and my love of writing and filmmaking.

My first book was published in 2011. My first film award was in 2014. It’s not always smooth sailing, relapse is the nature of the disease, but when things go a little sideways I know to get my butt in the psychiatrist’s and therapist’s chair.

Recently I had been not sleeping well and was idling on bitch. My p-doc upped my Depakote er and I’ve felt calmer, slept better, and been more productive than I have been in months.

Tomorrow through Wednesday on Amazon in honor of my 20th year in recovery and the production of Letters to Daniel the feature film I am making available Letters to Daniel the memoir the ebook available for free. I encourage you to download it if you haven’t. It’s my outreach tool and I want as many people to have it as possible.

Sincerely,

Amy McCorkle
