Art students got to show their talents and earn some money at a temple fair, นักเรียนศิลปได้แสดงผลงานและหารายได้ที่งานวัด

This is my entry for #wednesdaywalk hosted by my fellow supporter of bland food @tattoodjay. This post is running later than usual as I lost my earlier draft yesterday, so that put me off quite a bit. I seemed to have encountered funny problems with Esteem app this week, I don’t know if you also find something odd about this app lately. It must be the Mercury retrograde this month!

My mind has been rather full of all the materials I have been reading and researching about Wuhan and the new coronavirus or covid-19. I am afraid we have to start preparing for the pandemic and its impact which will rear its head in two months’ time. In the meantime, I need to find positive vibes from posting about my wonderful impressions during my visit to a temple’s fair. This old temple really cheered me up and brought me back to the past through a time portal. The communities surrounding this Wat Prayurawongsawas consist of Christians, Muslims and Buddhists who have been living like a big family since the establishment of Bangkok as a new capital of Siam (the original name of Thailand). During the reigns of King Taksin and King RamaI, Christian immigrants (some of whom were employed as soldiers and bodyguards) and Muslim immigrants from Persia and Parkistan (some were high ranking officers) and their families were granted plots of land to settle down not far away from King Taksin’ s Royal Palace.

Handicrafts, hand woven bags and cloth were on sale at the fair.

So, within walking distance of this Buddhist temple you would find an old Christian church and a Muslim mosque. This community has always been living like a big family and members participate in each other’s cultural festivities. In the evening there were performances on the stage by both Christian and Muslim artists.

The temple fair was very successful with lots of local people and visitors from the other side of the river. The atmosphere was very light, cheerful and friendly. I wish I could spend more time there but I had to catch the last boat back to Sathorn Pier.

The most innovative thing at the temple fair was that the temple encourage local art college to have their students involved in local activities. These budding artists were given their own space to draw portraits for people for very affordable fees. This was a very positive encouragement for these young artists to gain experience and earn some pocket money while making it possible for local people to have their portrait drawn by young artists.

ช่วงนี้เราหมกมุ่นกับการอ่านข่าวและหาข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับ เมืองอูฮั่นและไวรัสโควิท19 มากเกินไปจนจิตใจค่อนข้างหดหู่ ยิ่งมีข้อมูลมากก็ยิ่งเป็นกังวล และเราคิดว่าคนไทยต้องมีความตื่นตัวมากกว่านี้ เพราะระยะที่สอง และสามจะเกิดการระบาดแบบฉับพลัน คนไทยยังไม่ค่อยชอบล้างมือเท่าไรนัก วันนี้เราจึงต้องมาเขียนเรื่องที่ทำให้เราสบายใจดีกว่า ก็คือเรื่องงานวัดอีกนั่นเอง แต่งานวัดประยุรวงศาวาสทำให้เราประทับใจมาก เพราะเขาจัดงานได้ดีมากโดยอาศัยความร่วมมือชุมชนที่อยู่ในระแวกวัดนั่นเอง เช่น จะมีการแสดงบนเวทีในตอนกลางคืนโดยมีบรรดาศิลปินจากชุมชนชาวคริสต์ ชาวมุสลิม และชาวพุทธสลับกันเป็นแม่งานในแต่ละวัน ทำให้เรารู้ว่าชุมชนเก่าแก่ที่ตั้งรกรากมาแต่สมัย พระเจ้าตากสิน และในหลวงรัชกาลที่1มีความสามัคคีกลมเกลียว อยู่กันเหมือนครอบครัวใหญ่มาแต่อดีตกาล บรรยากาศงานวัดก็สนุกสนานรื่นเริงแบบเรียบร้อย มีอาหารอร่อยขายในราคาย่อมเยาว์ คนที่มางานก็เดินอย่างสบายใจ เด็กๆก็สนุกกับเกมส์และเครื่องเล่นในงาน

นอกจากนี้ทางวัดยังได้จัดสถานที่ให้นักเรียนจากวิทยาลัยในท้องที่ ได้มีโอกาสมาหาประสบการณ์และรายได้ จากการรับวาดภาพเหมือนให้กับผู้ที่มาเที่ยวชมงานประจำปีของทางวัด ศิลปินน้อยเหล่านี้มีตวามสามารถเกินตัว สามารถวาดรูปได้ในเวลาจำกัด และวาดได้ทั้งจากคนนั่งให้วาด และวาดภาพจากภาพถ่าย บางคนก็ระบาดเป็นภาพสีด้วย เราเห็นมีคนมาจ้างให้วาดรูปกันมาก ค่าแรงก็ย่อมเยาว์มาก เสียดายเราไม่มีเวลามาคอยรูปวาดและต่อคิว อยากได้ภาพวาดสีนํ้ามันสักใบหนึ่งเหมือนกัน เดี๋ยวเราจะวาดเองแบบแอ็ปสแทรกดีกว่า หลับตาวาดได้ทันที เพราะไม่ใช่ภาพเหมือนจริง งานวัดนี้มีทั้งสาระแบะเรื่องบันเทิงครบเครื่อง ทำให้เราอยากไปเที่ยวอีกทุกปี เพื่อนๆน่าจะลองหาเวลาไปเที่ยวงานปีหน้า
