Running away from bad weather at Creag Meagaidh circuit
Today I went up three munros at Creag Meagaidh park. We knew the weather conditions will deteriorate later on this afternoon as there were weather warnings on all mountain weather forecasts so we have to be fast. It started off easily and then we went through the forests which fell like a little bit like going through the jungle. It's a strange feeling considering we up north in the Scottish Highlands. We went very steep and gained height quickly.
We reached the first summit of Carn Liath The Grey Rocky Hill in 2 hours.
After a quick snack, we carried on the ridge for a few kilometers to get to the next one. Luckily, the mist lifted sometimes just enough to take photos.
As the bad weather with rain and wind, we put waterproofs on the second summit of Stob Poite Coire Ardair - Peak of the Pot of the High Corrie.
Wet and cold we continue the hike. We made a decision as we were passing 'the window' (which was part of our return route) to carry on to the 3rd summit. We were very careful with navigation now as the grassy plateau with mist and hardly any visibility was extremely difficult to navigate. The is the last summit... a wee bit too soon.
After checking it out, we found out that it's only the cairn indicating the way to the summit and we need to carry on another half a kilometer.
Finally, we reached the summit of Creag Meagaidh - The Bogland Rock.
The navigation back will be tricky.
And it was. We managed to find the way back with a lot of difficulties. Let's get back to 'the window'.
The window at last!
A very steep scramble over the wet boulders. I managed to slip and fall. Luckily, I got away with two massive a for size bruises on my legs and not a broken leg. Later on, sat at home with ice packets on both legs. It was a narrow escape.
There is the loch and there should be a path to follow.
These hanging rocks in the mist remind me science fiction movie from the past Avatar.
After crossing a few fords...
There are the loch and the path.
It is very easy from now on. The weather on top doesn't look very good at all.
Back in the car. We walked 3.8 km per hour which was very fast considering the scrambling and the ascent.
